from what I understand from the Ed Rosenthal book, the 12 hours of darkness is appreciated by the plant, soley because within that time of darkness, it allows a chemical to become produced telling the plant to continue with the flowering, that is why light leaks can be so detrimental, because without a constant at least or around 12 hours of light, the chemical will fail to produce, and soon the plant will revert back into veg stage. Honestley I think the best way to go about flowering, is to find the perfect time (meaning less dark more light) to induce flowering, while still giving it all the best stuff it can take for longer in the day time. Maybe a 14/10... Couldn't be sure, honestly you would need a couple grows mirroring each other in every way but the hour of day and night in flowering, and check to see which types to the best in those scenarios. Which brings me to something else I forgot, depending on where the strain is originated from, dictates the amount of dark it will need to induce flowering, since some regions on earth don't actually get the 12 hours of darkness every night, strains have adapted to these specifications...
