1000 watt hps distance

approaching 3 weeks from sprout.. 1000 watt hortilux.. how far would you keep it from plant?

I currently have it at about 4 feet away.. maybe a little less and i can easily put my hand like 2 feet away and not feel any discomfort but im also a little worried about bringing em too close..

what are your opinions?

I've kept my sprouts at 8" from my 1000mh, and now im sensing some upwards curling at week 2. I think it's heat stress (ah so nice to have too much light!!). Im going to go to 24" above the plants and gradually get it down to 12". I hope that takes the curl out. Anyone else know the answer to this?

that is a bit close without cooltube, while young they cant take the heat as much but you should be able to get the light as close as your hand can take it 24" is ok for young plants but may be too far and cause the plant to stretch or reach for the light If you blow your fan between the light and top of plant you can get it closer but 8 inch is too close until old enough to take it and you can blow some air or get cooltube. if you put your hand on the same level as the plant and dont feel it burning your hand then your plant should be able to handle it. I am pretty sure my 1000w less than a foot will burn my ass

Sorry to hi-jack. raised my 1000mh up to 30" from 2week olds, and the new growth still wanted to curl. Im using a vented hood, its definately not a heat issue. So, since i couldnt raise the lights more, I switched to my 400hps, 16" away. The curling has stopped, and all look like they are gonna make it. Im thinking of swithing the lights to 1000w once they reach 6" tall and I start the LST. I suppose I'll start 'em at 18" from the 1000mh..

Any suggestions? I want the MOST they can handle w/o curling. Again, its not a heat issue after 10". Thanks for the hi-jack oportunity..

60cm min is good or do the smart thing and switch to two 600
