1000 watt HPS LIGHT 20 inches from plant?

I have a 1000 watt hpd light and i was just wondering if i can have it 20 inches away from my plant and not kill my plant?

depending on the air circulation and temps u can get it closer then that even without fear.

i keep my 1000w a mere 10 inches from the tops of my girls and they just love it,just make sure the temp at the plant tops is not more then 80 and ur good.

OK Thanks man , I dont have a fan in there right now but i am going to get one in there. I am growing in my addic and it is very dry in the all the time there are to ducts to the room of the house but it doesnt seem to be circulationg air, the ducts in my attic are about 7 inches wide. They are circular ducts. I can buy a fan the can fit perfectly in it and just turn it on and have the air blowing out or flip it over and have the air comming in??.
i am going to experiment. When i put my theremometer about 15 inches from the light and it got up too about 80 degrees in about 2 minutes. Ideffinetely need a fan.

yea definitly you need a fan,ide put so it is taking the air out and put an osculating fan blowing on the plants for the circulaton.chances are that might be all u need.

thats way to close without any cooling or at least a fan blowing between the light and canopy top..IMO.....put your hand over the top of the plants..if your hand starts to burn so are your ladies..

Also my ballst doesnt have a glass covering the light, is that something i need? i know it would most likely cut the heat down but where can i get one to fit the ballast?

you can order one online from various hydro dealers and your local hydro shop or find a glass shop and get a piece of tempered glass cut for your dimensions...its not a necessity, but if you want to air cool your light you will need it
