1000watt 4x4 area

I have a 1000 watt hps in a 4x4 grow tent. Im looking into auto flowering plants and was woundering how many I could get in there, what size pots i should use, should I go with a 24/0, 20/4, or 18/6 light cycle.

I would say a 16 plant SOG with 18 and 6 then 12/12, this will give you 1 square foot of space per plant which is said to be the ideal for the highest yield per given space. This is the exact setup I plan on using but with an ebb and flow. if you could find deep 1'x1' pots that would be amazing.

grow bags what sise? why auto flower? when u grow a normal strain u can choose when u want it 2 flower any way, use 16 4 gal pots or 6 monsters and u would have planty of space for each plantsince each plant is in its own space it will gro up so try not toping or fimming 2 much if u sog cuze it will cause out ward growth into the other plants, what ur looking for is up ward growth and strong stalks 2 produce fat resinoius coalas, gud luk, i would imagin u mite be able 2 get almost a lb at harvest

I used a 4x4 grow box for years and I can tell you this. If you pack your plants too tight you will have very little light penetration. The first thing you need to figure out is what type of plants you want to grow. For example, do you want a SoG style with a larger amount of smaller plants that you keep short (more popular for those without plant # restrictions), or do you want to grow a few monsters?
If plant numbers are not a concern, you will get a better percentage of good quality pot by keeping the plants smaller and doing a SoG operation. In this type of operation you could easily fit 7plants x 7plants totaling 49, and maybe more, in 2 gallon grow bags. You want to flower the plants before they reach 12" in height to keep a nice even canopy. Being squeezed in a small area like yours the penetration will only go down about 12-15" so growing large plants in this type of condensed atmosphere is counterproductive. I would aim for an average of 10-20 grams per plant, but all top good-quality nugs. I'd be happy with around a pound your first go around.
If you want to keep plant numbers down you could grow between 4-6 larger plants. Yeah, you could squeeze 12-16 larger plants in 5 gal pots. I've done it, but trust me, the canopy gets so thick with that many plants that you need to trim them and train them heavily and you still waste a lot on the lower branches. By limiting the plants to 4-6 you can get deeper light penetration and, if all else is done well, can average 3-4 ounces per plant. I am still a fan of using a screen at the top to help spread the light out and even out the canopy.
Trust me, more plants is not always better in a confined area. Personally, I would scrap that 1000 and get 2 600s. You'll have much better light coverage and penetration and be able to keep the light closer. You'll also have more lumens for about the same electrical usage.
And while veging I always kept lights on 24hr. Never had a problem and they grow a little quicker. If you're not in a hurry dial it back a bit.
