i know i just ran into one of those charts that lets you figure out how much electric a light uses, but for the life of me. i can't figure out from where.. i did the math for a 250, and i think it was like $15/month or somewhere around that.. i would say go for the bigger of the two as the power consumption won't be all that much more, and the heat won't be much more either, and you will get a better yield in the end..
try and do a google search for how to figure out power consumption..

I don't know the exact numbers. But either would probably use less power than your computer does per month.

The cost of power varies based on location, but the national average in the US is around .10 cent per KwH. A KwH is equivalent to 1000w power consumption/hour.
Sooo.......250w/1000w = .25 KwH @ .10 cent/ Kw it comes out to about 2.5 pennies per hour on the 250 hps.
About 30 cents per day or $9 bucks a month on 12/12 light cycle. Would be approx $14 on 18/6 cycle. ]
Theres alot of Light cost calculators out there on the web that could help you out. But overall, a light of this size will consume very little power.

watts times hours = watt hours. Watt hours divided by 1000 = kilowatt hours.

So 40 watts for 1 hour is 40 watt hours. Burning for 1000 hours would be 40 KWH.

Substitute any other wattage you wish.

My power costs 8 cents per KWH. So that 40 watt bulb costs .0032 cents per hour.

Some of the other answers are a hoot.
