150w HPS vs. 156w CFL

So between the two light setups, 150w HPS vs. 6 26w CFL's, do you think the CFL's would run cooler than the HPS? Currently, as some may know, trying to work out a heat problem that has temps reaching upwards of 95 degrees. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

it would be cooler save on electric bills and you could get them closer to the lamp and not worry about burns, But with a HPS it is the best spectrum for them and you can plug 150 hps in to a main house socket. But myself i would go for HPS i use cfl for vegging and 400 watt hps for flowering lets make the sea of green :) hope that helps

cfls but you'll loose out in the long run
As in yield? If that's the case I don't really mind because this is just for personal use. I've seen some pretty damn good grows with just CFL's. I was planning on getting 6 of each (6500 and 2700) for veg and flower.

In an enclosed space CFL's wont help your heat situation...they produce roughly the same amount of heat at similar wattages, just the HPS heat is more concentrated.

Incorrect, how would 150W be more electricity than 156W of Cfls...

But its true about the heat, 150W doesn't really produce a lot of heat either, id take hps over cfl anyday

And just to add, CFL spectrum is 100 times better than HPS for growing with, but the HPS is 100 times more intense...so even nowadays, you're better off having 1,000 arrows to fire at the enemy than 10 bullets ;)

150 hps has my vote

I have a 150 hps in my cab

and its sitting on top of my baby , about 3" above her

temp stays right at 80 degrees and between 38% and 40% humidity

as long as you got good ventilation and air flow then heat is not a problem

i just now took this pic so you can see how close my hps is to my baby

156 watt clf = 30-60 grams dry per harvest.
150 hps = 75-150 grams dry per harvest

In thermodynamics in a perfect chamber all energy in turns to heat( fans, lights, ect) so they heat output is almost same wattage.

Your solution. Get a 45-250 watt LED ( get one with red blue spectum and uv) preferable more then on wavelenth of each. Get as little heat as possible and supliment with clf until u meet ur heat threshold. Decent 50 watt led lights are 99usd, search BCLEDsupply ,

@ harreki , CLFis not q better spectrum for growing. Photons emited are only at specific wavlenths much like LED only emit specific wavelenth. This is shown in chemistry with the bohr model of electon emition or photons. That being said depending on the gass inside the clf you do get a good many points on intensity( clf are more efficient At outputting light then HID or incandecent). But hps produces more useful light then clf.

It is staggering to me that there are soo many indoor "growers" who know absolutely jack shit about light bulbs, light wavelengths, PAR, watts, Lumens, you name it. 991 posts and you come up with "CFL spectrum is 1,000 better for plants"

As someone said earlier...they produce the same amount of heat as the same amount of energy is being converted to light. AT any rate, your putting cart before the horse or so I shall, robbing peter to pay paul.

I personally like to actually grow marijuana, marijuana with huge sticky buds on them. If that is what you would like to do then quite fucking looking at CFL's, reading about CFL's or even thinking about CFL's (unless the light in your bathroom burned out), go buy an air conditioner on Craigs list for $100 and be done with already.

Jesus.
