I've read various techniques on how to LST, hope I'm doing it right. Don't want to hurt my girls

That’s not extreme at all. You can turn the tops toward the corners of the tent and keep the top down as the lowers take off and become tops of their own. As the top grows, move the pots toward the center so you can keep tying it down.

I’d try to bend those tops a little lower still. They should be below or at level with the new growth you want to encourage.
