1st TIME COCO HELP

What's up, fam?! So a buddy recently gave me a bunch of stuff to start my first coco grow. He'd originally bought it for himself and then backed out. I would like help getting the coco mix right for each phase of growth and learning more about growing in Coco with dry amendments. I've only ever grown in rockwool and FFOF and a variety of liquid bottled nutes, so this is brand new for me. Yes, I've watched all of Mr.Canucks stuff on YouTube and he's awesome. However, I don't have Gaia products and I like being able to ask people questions directly.

I'll be starting this grow in a new 4x4 GG tent with a Growers Choice ROI E420 to which I'll be adding an AC Infinity Cloudline T6. What I have is listed below and I'll attach some photos, just because. I love learning and I'd really appreciate any advice, tips/tricks that you all have to offer. What should I add or take away, should I premix each growth phase blend? Let's talk!

- 70/30 coco/perlite - Worm Castings - Down To Earth (Bio-Live 5-4-2, Langbeinite 0-0-22, Granular Humic Acids, Fish Meal 8-6-0, Blood Meal 12-0-0) - Insect Frass 3.1-3.8-2.3 - Small bottle FishSh!t - Azomite - HiBrix (molasses)

I love your enthusiasm, but before you get started, I'd do more research into coco+dry amendments. This place is a refugee camp filled with people who watch Mr. Canucks and ruined their grows. I'm sure some people have success with that method, but many more have problems, especially right when they flip to flower-there is a new thread on the topic almost every day. I'd do some searching through the forum and see who was successful at it and what they did differently. Once you add all those amendments, there is very little you can do if you get a nutrient lockout-sometimes they just have to give up and flush and change to liquid nutrients.

You probably want to stick with organics, but I can't recommend enough using a one or two part inorganic nutrient line for your first coco grow. The good one parts are Megacrop or Maxibloom, and the two part formulas are Jacks A/B and Megacrop A/b. These nutrients all have very low heavy metal counts, much lower than organic nutrients in many cases. The inorganic nutrients would require that you get a few testing devices, PH and TDS, and learn about mixing them up to the correct PPMs and PH, but you'll have a successful grow. Whichever way you go, good luck!

Solid advice. I came to this group in hopes of finding people like you and the others. Let's just say, I'm expecting to fail. I've definitely read a lot of horror stories. I'm doing this for sh!ts and giggles, honestly. I plan on starting with 1 plant, just to get the hang of Coco. However, I'm totally open to trying an organic soil blend too. I've grown tons of Subcool's gear and always regretted not trying his super soil before he passed. I had direct access to him to pick his brain, but didn't want to move out of my comfort zone and I didn't want to bug an already incredibly busy man.

I figured someone in here would go... "Oh yeah I've tried that... Do this." I bought the new setup just for this new learning experience. I have no clue how to use anything I listed, yet. I'll hit the forums here for sure. I appreciate you reaching out!
 
If you try and replicate that Canuck clown you're likely to go down a rough road that leads to disappointment. Those Down To Earth products are good but you really need to know what you're mixing up and why. If you've never grown in coco you'll be best off starting with just any decent base nutrients instead of trying to amend your coco with all those amendments.

I don't know why anyone would listen to anything that Canuck guy has to say unless you want to grow plants like his which are pretty nasty.
I can't even believe that he makes videos showing off this garbage. What's even worse is the fact there are people that think these garbage plants look good. Crispy fried to hell from a crappy grower using crappy methods.

I wouldn't smoke the crap that guy grows.

So, do you recommend I toss everything besides the coco itself? I've got to be able to use some of it successfully, yeah?

I wouldn't toss anything. That's all good stuff. I just wouldn't use it with coco the way you intend to.

Noted. Maybe I'll turn this into my first super soil mix grow. Either way, I'm definitely interested in learning organics and dry amendments. I'm definitely picking up what you're putting down lol.

You can definitely use coco in place of peat in a supersoil.

Just to help get you started, here is a simple mix that people have had great success with for decades, and you'll notice that Coco works in the recipes AND you already probably have most of the stuff you'll need: https://www.icmag.com/forum/marijuana-growing/organic-soil/48694-organics-for-beginners?t=53792

You'll find that they use either soil or peat moss with the dry amendments.

Is there a reason people would rather use coco except for the more renewable aspect of it? I don't get why people are so set on in when a bag of peat based is even cheaper

I'm not set on it lol. You could say I saw some things that piqued my interest. I know nothing about it though and I'm most positive I wouldn't stick with it. The stuff was given to me. However, after reading what the others had to share above, I'm leaning towards mixing my own soil so... I've been running DWC and FFOF w/ a host of easy bottled and salt based stuff for a long while. I just want to be able to not panick... And learn organics.
