2 strains - 1 from clone 1 from seed - When to top?

I've got 4 Blueberry Cupcake and 2 Purple Cinderella going in the same 4x4. The bbcc are from clones, the PC are from seed. I think I would like to top all the plants before flipping to 12/12 in order to try to keep a flatter canopy for ease in maintaining the tent. I haven't decided if I will put up a net or if they will just grow as they grow. My question is when should I be topping the plants as I would like to attempt to keep all 6 plants fairly even. I just don't know how clones react to being topped since they are already mature and don't have symmetrical nodes. They are starting to put on new growth pretty quickly and I'd like to keep them from getting out of control.

You could top them right now. It's really all preference. I top my clones by the time they have 4 node sets.

The plants will redirect Auxin from the main top to all the other branches naturally once you cut the heads off. This auxin hormone encourages the branches to reach and grow somewhat equally vertically. Any time you get competing tops after topping, top those too. I keep really well spread out canopies using low stress training (bending branches outwards gently) and topping any dominant heads to create a tabletop through veg on each plant, usually once a week or so..

Too add to the excellent answers above, its easier to have a net you dont use than add a net when you need one.

That's on the short list of stuff to pickup. I'm no stranger to wrasslin a net onto a stubborn plant. The clones big sister in my 3x3 was quite a match to get bent down and the net on top.
