NOOB ALERT! So I increased the watering to every 4hrs from every six last night. It was rather warm yesterday even with my vents open, the room was 86degrees at one point, highest its been since I started this... This morning I go in to check the plants to make sure the increased watering is doing ok, I have read that too little humidity makes the water go through the plants (transpire) faster and can cause nute burn as the plants take on more stored nutes and cant use all of them. I also read an interesting article on fresh high flowing air, even though I don't have co2 the plants have more access to the co2 due to the high air flow under the leaves and that high air flow kills humidity. Anyways, back to my NOOB incident. My ph was at 6.7 ( a little higher than I would like it to get) so I go about knocking the ph down. Im checking my water level and it is way, way low. WTF? The increased watering and the high temp must have really evaporated the nutes! Level was at 24" in the res 2 days ago now its at 12".. I usually measure daily but I didnt yesterday, as I thought it only went down about 1/2" a day. I break out the water and the nutes and decide to go ahead and fill the rez to the top ( I had been running 1/2 tank) .. i finish everything (1part gh micro to 2 parts flora bloom) and adjust ph... I always clean my measuring device in the fill box and hold the switch to drain box into the rez.... WELL! to my surprise my control box is full! lol... My box pump caught an air bubble and didnt drain the nutes back into the rez from a previous cycle... Damn I laughed hard, what a noob mistake... Im glad the ebb&gro is forgiving on noobs. I drained the buckets and skipped a feeding...figuring they were soaking for at least a few cycles. I found the air bubble culprit... The previous owner cut the hose that goes into the box from the rez. a little long,, and when the nutes pump into the box a a few air bubbles come out of the end of the hose, this hose was very close to the drain pump, i believe air was blown under the pump even though it is upside don and against the bottom of the box.. To fix this I simply cut the hose to where it only hangs down a few inches. Since filling the rez full I also added another vacuum break higher so that the hose doesn't allow siphoning into the box. Im having fun with this system... Heres a few pics of the two girls that I have been keeping pics of,,, the 3rd pic is the one that had mites... I hacked the infected lower leaves off, they had too many eggs to bother with (they havnt seem to hatch, perhaps the chems and the alcohol effected them) but I trimmed them off anyways just to be safe... she has stretched alot due to stress. I may tie her over early the next few days to let the lower branches catch up.
