200w CFL Closet Grow!

Hey guys, thought i'd share my up and coming setup with everyone here in the CFL forum. After a lot of research and debating, I decided to go with the Hydrofarm 200w CFL System.

I have a 3.5ft Kush plant that has been growing outdoors for the latter half of summer, and I plan to bring her inside. I'm normally an outdoor guy but i figured I'd give this inside thing a whirl and will in turn extend my season.

Here's what I have and the space i plan to use. The main reason I chose this setup was for planning ahead for next year. I'll use this same setup and space to veg a few girls in the colder, earlier months of the year.

Any input, tips, or suggestions are greatly appreciated. I know this is a 6500k bulb, but I've been told it will work all the way through harvest so that's what I plan to try :weed:

Just keep in mind that you will almost certainly bring bugs in too so be prepared to deal with that.

mmm yes, i didn't think of this initially but...i did notice a few bugs...small green one, leaf hopper and a small black fly...is that an aphid or no?

I have some botanical insectiside made by Schultz called Houseplant & Garden. It worked for me last year outdoors.

Will this be enough or what do you mean by prepare xD?

yea youll bring bugs and pesticides in, thats why its super important to sanitize the grow space, i mean bleach water everything within that area, and keep it cool and dry for a couple of days, let the bugs make their way out of the environment. cuz bugs love humidity and heat, your plant will be fine to deal with that, it would rather have the bugs not knawing at it then to go thru the rest of the grow dealing with that shit ya know? lol if your problem persists and it results in larvae, more knats etc. just put some sand on top of your soil and it should get rid of them. if its something thats more or less "attracted to the plant" ie spider mites, you might need some kind of oil to get them off, i hear einstein oil works good, makes the leaves sag but gets rid of the mites, good luck and hope to see a great harvest, happy growing!!!

6500k isn't gonna work for flowering too , at least not very well

What do you suggest? telling me it isn't going to work isn't very helpful. I chose this light because I didn't want to deal with ten or twelve different lights and reflectors wires etc.

If it would make a difference I might buy 2x 42w 2700k bulbs to give it a little boost?

edit:

All Mylar'd up!

use the 6500k's for veg and 2700k for flowering. And you can never have too much light going on.
Well i'm going to be using the 6500k 200w Bulb regardless of veg or flower....but i might get a few 42w 2700k's to supplement the lower parts.

you sure about that? I think you would
need at least a few softer white bulbs.
With a lower Kelvin color. like 2800 or so.
:!:
But eh. Good luck. I'll keep watching.

You have a link from where you got that
CFL growing kit? I want to check that out man.
Appreciate it. Peace man.. let me know about the link if you have it. Later!:leaf:

I've been told this bulb alone will get me through flowering and I believe it.

Those guys sell everything I have there.

I should be up and running tomorrow, working out how i'm going to mount the thing!

Judging based solely on your picture and having extensively read these forums and many others on the subject of CFL grows, you will need more than just a few low watt bulbs in the 2700k range. You will want your grow room to be a sea of CFL. Keep the big sun up in the sky, but consider like 3 x the number of 2700k bulbs you had previously considered. Every damn node should be completely illuminated and bathed in light to produce the best, densest buds possible. If you care about your yields at least.

A fine example of what I am talking about. Notice the large bulb in the fixture up top? That resembles yours. What do you lack in your picture? Many many more small bulbs to get light to the lower part of the plant. You also want them to be damn near touching the top of your plant. As close as you can get them without burning your plant is almost not close enough. Very important.

I do understand this, but i'm not trying to rush anything. I just invested a chunk of change into this setup and I don't have the cash flow to go buy 100$ worth of bulbs again.

I am considering getting at least two or three 42w 2700k's in the near future to supplement the lower part of the plant like you said.

Any other constructive criticisms beside the 2700k light issue? that's all that seems to be coming up in this thread :wall:

Other than the issue of flowering, also be aware that infestations will be coming in with your plant. Even the healthiest outdoor grow will bring pests in with it. That's nature. Just be ready for that. Your plant looks fuckin huge too btw. When you flower it be prepared for it to triple in size.

Just so you know, 26 watt 2paks are at walmart for about 7 dollars. 14 to 21 dollars and youll have all the 2700k side lighting youll need....

Sorry to be back on that subject.

yeah i have a growcab with about 13000 lumen of floro tubes and the plants/buds simply don't do well in such a low light environment. be prepared for massive stretching and smaller than expected yields. I also use a greenroom for veg/flowering for winter/summer (respectfully) and with minimal lighting you get minimal results.

good idea, thank you....

the reason I got the larger wattage CFL in the first place is to avoid a large mess of wires etc.

What do you suggest I mount them with / where can I find cheap sockets (essentially what i am asking :))

best thing to do would be to head to the hardware store or walmart and pick up some dual socket connections which run about 2 bucks each, that way if u get some 42 watt softwhite you can put 2 on each side of the plant and 2 on top, unless you buy one extra for each dual socket and turn it into 3 lights on each side, although 42 watters run about 8 - 10 bucks a peice, but look how much light you would get with 6 of them, 252 actual watts for less than 60 bucks, personally i would just buy one every paycheck or everytime id have the money, each time your plant will love you more :weed: and if you did have 3 sockets on each side with 42 watts, 378 watts!!!:o
