The purpose of this thread is to discuss future BBQ's. Although past BBQ's went off well, there were some things we could improve upon. I thought the "Come as you are""No reservations required" approach would put people at ease and more would attend. This approach has it's +'s and -'s. I'm beginning to understand why most of these get together 's are invitation only & reservations required. It's difficult & wasteful to plan an event when you have no idea how many will show up. It's no skin off their nose if things don't go well, they have nothing invested.
I'm thinking of setting up a paypal account and ask for a donation of $10 a head, payable in advance & refunded at the door. At least then the No Show's will pay for the food they wasted by not showing.......
Ideas?.....

If we made it $20, and the usual number of people show, we could rent a nice RV and have a kitchen & toilet right there. Sleeping, first come first served.......

Define "nice spots"?......if they are on State or Federal land, you'll be dealing with "Forest Rangers.".....Camp Far West is private lake....

Any funds collected over expenses, we could give to the person who traveled the furthest as a prize!....:eek:

Wish i could have made it i would have donated 10 dollars just for the hell of it if that was an option.

I like your idea for charging in advance and RSVP only.

That way the ppl that have time and money invested dont take a huge loss if things don't go right.

To me it's not so much the $$, as the disappointment......:sad:

So how many ppl post in the poll that they were going? How many really showed up?

Sponsor?....how about a sponsor? I was hit up buy a local hydro/grow shop, to sponsor. I turned them down, wanted to keep it private, but maybe we should re-visit the idea. Should we 'commercialize' it? look for a sponsor?....

DJ this will always be a problem .Some people will never show up.I dont know why they do it but they just do.But you are working on a way to stop them. Keep the ideals coming.You will come up with some kind of a answer.But half,,thats no excuse.You can figure about half of the half probably new they werent gonna show from the start.When money becomes involved might see a change in numbers.Getting everyone involved (make sure they have something to be responsible for) you are on to some fixes.

If you get sponsors they will wanna advertise( who knows). You just might not have control over who is gonna show up. Just a thought

Yeah, they were gonna set up a tent with their products. They did say they would have some handout samples....

Hell No!.....if someone didn't show, and was responsible for something critical, we would be sunk!...Nothing critical, "side dish" only....

Glad you are getting the jump on it. But I dont see anyone helping you.The less responsible the more they pay. I see what you are thinking.May get them to show up.Make them want to show up.

If "Free" All you can smoke Cali weed & all you can eat roast pork didn't make them show up, I'm not sure what would?
