24/0 or 18/6?

What's the merits and advantages/disadvantages of 18/6 over 24/0 for early vegetative growth (seedling to 12" or so)? I've seen people who recommend both. Understandably, lower electric bills from 18/6, but other than that, are there any real advantages to this?

If you were to start with 24/0, should you switch to 18/6 at a certain point, or can you go 24/0 all the way out till you flower at 12/12?

I had the same questions and to answer them i am running a trail and error run.
I started them off on 24/7 until they had 4 leafs then i switched to 20/4 which they are on now.
They seem to be doing fine

Not many advantages of 18/6 - more possibilties of females, easier to regulate your environment (temp and humidity) 24 - grows faster.
As far as quality goes, I find that I get a nicer high off the buds from 18/6, 24 hour light makes them use nutrients at a much faster rate.

4 x 6 weeks veg cycles at 18/6 for the cost of 3 x 6 weeks veg cycles at 24/0
youll also get 6 more grows out of the bulb doing 18/6 than you would if you did 24/0
its rumored that 24/0 has higher chance of producing males than 18/6(if that is the deciding factor for that particular seed)
24/0 will produce more growth than 18/6
its not uncommon to do 24/0 then switch to 18/6 at 2wks

Alright. I like the idea of switching at 2 wks. I'm at 5 days currently, and I'm at about a 2.7 cm leaf-size (from tip of one leaf to the stem), with three real leaves plus the two little baby leaves (the little baby leaves are starting to wrinkle, it seems, I'm not sure what this means... But they're still green and fleshy).

From what I've seen, this is a pretty acceptable grow-speed. Am I right?

When should I start seeing more nodes with more leaves?

Also, it's not going to hurt it to have my HPS light on it this early, is it? It's one of the 250W HPS + 20W MH lamps. The temp is only ~25C between the light and the plant, so it's not burning.

okay...the plant needs it's time to sleep, just like us. There are rumors that running 24/0 will produce 70% male plants. If I were you...and you want to have as much light as possible, then go with 19/5 or 20/4...maybe even 21/3

For early stages of vegatative growth, you want cool light. Floro's work well, CFL's too. (Not warm, it should say "cool") I mean, yeah, you can grow with a HPS off the start, but not many people will recommend it

This thread has been done and done again, its silly. Lots of mis-informed people giving advice.

If you want your plants to grower quicker go with 24/0 if you want them to grow slower go with 18/0.

More males or whatever is just total bullshit. I grew 80 plants and got 50 females using 24/0 light.
