240 actual led watts or 315 cmh in 3x2?

Looking at getting either the viparspectra xs 2000 its 240 actual watts with Samsung 301b diodes and a meanwell driver, but also like what i hear about the 315cmh Phillips bulb. But dont know if my 20 in x36 in x 63 in is too small can any one give me some advice or personal perspective?

Id go cmh before vipar anyday. Vipar spectrum seems a bit high in blue which will make it easier to grow under but it cost you at yield time. CMH in a small space like that seems like too much power, and too hot and even a bit risky. A space like that is hard to grow nicely in. Id do a diy with a mix of top light and side light. Maybe using something like blux vesta strips, or vesta thrive iff they are finally available.

You mean risky as possible fire risk? Yea my space limits me i think i might just go with the viparspectra and try some of the 30 watt red and try flowering the plants i have now., ive been planning on getting another tent to run perpetual harvest, so maybe ill get 3x3 with the 315 and just veg

240w rectangular led fixture with a broad spectrum for a 2x3'. A 315 can cover some space depending on hood selection & cross lighting. 3x3 min. I think.
Running x4 CMH against the Bar-8 (900W) now. Each covers a 5'8"x7" space with x2 plants each. 1260w of evenly spread 315's is a lil different then a singe DE-HPS. Gonna be a tough one.

Id be atleast concerned about heat and fire with a cmh in such an enclosed space, you would be growing with limited height and footprint with a light which has a little too much wattage for that space. A 3x3 is a good size, get something with some height aswell.
Something like the vipar, but not the vipar would be a good idea. The vipar is only rated by amazon shoppers, not growers. Of course, if you add some red you will make up for their spectrum but then your forking out more money.
For an easy growlight, that does all this: buy a 240 kit, hlg/alibaba or wherever you want. Use a serious flowerspectrum, 2700k + redsup in the board. Then add some extra blue on a dimmer. This will work better than adding red in flower.
Kingbrite on ali have this gear. Id avoid getting the driver from them, just get a double board kit with sinking and some extra blue and get drivers local, ot anywhere you could send the driver backnif it fails. Who wants to do rma to china?
You dont need a full 240w, you can do it with 180.

Honestly ive looked into alibaba id be getting samung 301h diodes from them which are basically the same as the 301b diodes on the vipar and the same meanwell driver's, why dont you like the vipar? Something you heard or first hand experience?

They tend to use a lot of blue in their spectrum, and tend to be overpriced in my opinion. Using midpowers is defo a step in the right direction though. The few ive seen that went from vipar to HLG and similar, white based light, didnt go back. Up to you. Id rather get sone ali boards at a lower price and run them a bit softer. If you want to make comparisons id try doing calculations on diode/$ and start there. Though, if you go the ali route my rec is getting boards and sinks only, and drivers locally.
No personal experience with vipar other than having seen slightly disappointing grows online and knowing that if id use that spectrum it would be for vegg.

CMH hoods vary in size and function. Remote ballast.....bulb orientation.

These are both 315w.
View attachment 4714519
18x18 opening vertical - internal ballast - taller and bulky
Vs
11x13 opening horizontal - remote ballast - short and stealthy

Bulb orientation makes a huge difference to the height from the plants, vertical can get much closer.
The heat is radiated over the canopy rather than into it with one hot spot.
If you have a horizontal bulb put your hand to the end of it to get an idea of the difference.

So i just checked the viparspectra and the hlg 260 rspec they use the same drivers and diodes only difference is viparspectra has ir, both between 500/ 550thinking that viparspectra would be best for the current system im running but might add a few of the epistar red bulbs that they sell on Amazon

HLG would most likely be a bit better in efficiency, they have a long ongoing collaboration with samsung. Samsung basicly built a factory in Vietnam for HLG to cherry pick the best diodes and avoid getting hit by trump tarrifs.
If theyre both 500 something id look around for other deals, thats quite expensive for both.
Also Vipar does not have IR afaik no led light have it, they do have some far red though.
But then again im all DIY, dont buy a light when i can build better for cheaper. And in the end i think im a bit predjudice against vipar, i dont know why anyone would choose them but thats me. If you can get over china fears theres lights for like 150$ plus shipping from community trusted alibaba sellers, meijiu and kingbrite are good.

CMH x4 using 4x4 crosslit hoods. Similar to how a DE crosslaps, creating more light input from the upper sides. I need to get the MQ-550 Atachment for my 620 to get better readings vs the Led side. THE MQ-620 Is not deigned to accurately measure the ir past the 850 range or something like that. Have since turned the hoods on the left side around so they are now closer together.
I bought these to have an easier time having a healthy veg & it worked. Very natural whereas it seems each led spectrum can manipulate a plant one way or another.20201013_223018.jpg20201007_025038.jpg
