240V -> 120V

So I got a DE setup from a buddy for a pretty good deal. The only problem is its 240V and I don't have any of those plugs in my room. Is there anything I can do to make this work without risking an electrical fire?

He said he has some sort of chord, like a dongle, that will let me plug to 120V but is there any danger to this?

There are two acceptable answers:
1. Buy a step up converter to convert from 110 to 220.
2. Run a new line from your breaker box to a new 220v outlet.

you could cheat and use the neutral wire for a hot just rewire the outlet and get the correct breaker but the whole circuit will be 220 so all the outlets on that run

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess he sold me a knockoff gavita DE setup.. Not a true gavita :-(

Got this, a chiller, and a hanna PPM/PH pen for $300 so I can't complain at all.

He gave me the wrong one. I'm getting interchangeable DE tomorrow !
