2x2" vs 4x4 Rockwool

I'm doing hydroponics CAP ebb and gro bucket system.. wondering if I could use 2x2 rockwool covered with hydroton vs a 4x4 rockwool. . Will the plants stand up straight with just the 2x2 rw?

depends on the size of the plant, if you've got a table full of hydroton the roots should anchor it
