3x3 growbox questions?

Hi there,

Hoping somebody can clue me in with a few concerns I'm having with purchasing a 3x3 growbox. I usually grow in a tent but as I'm moving house I feel that it is no longer an option and I need a stealth set-up. The growbox I'm looking at is a 3ft high by 3ft wide steel cabinet. there are 2. 1 of which is 40 cm deep and the other 60 cm for a big price difference. How significantly will this 20cm of space effect my total yield in such a small confined space?

I will be running it under a 400w HPS. Really for personal smoke I am hoping for about 6 oz per harvest every 3 months and then a month of cure. That should last me until the next 1 afterward completes. Is it possible? Please bear in mind that the light will take up almost a ft with the cooltube and fan and ducting. and the pots will take up almost a ft too, so there is really only about 2ft give or take of grow space. If it is scrogged and LST'ed can 6oz be achieved in such a space? I don't mind paying the extra for the extra bit of space if it will significantly improve my yield.

Can somebody help me out please? Thank you :)

If you put a 400w hps in a 3' high 3'x2' box you will cook your plants. You just don't have enough height in there. You might get away with putting two 150s in there but even that would probably be pushing it. You're gonna need a cabinet at least 5' high really. I really don't recommend trying to grow dope in the little cabinets you described, at least not with hps, maybe LED of somewhere around 200w. I would just look for some kind of wardrobe cabinet. That'll look inconspicuous. You should try to get a low odor strain too, like maybe Northen Lights, if you're expecting people to come into the grow area sometimes, which I assume is why you're using the cabinet in the first place. I don't know how you would ventilate it inconspicuously though.

Here, I found what you need. Maybe just put a vent hole at the top of the back for ventilation and heat removal. Might need to rig up a carbon filter inside the vent hole if it turns out to be a smelly strain. Home Depot sells them too, apparently taking advantage of the green rush. For something that small you might be able to just sit a small air purifier in there rather than use a can filter. I don't know if it's safe to exhaust a can type carbon filter into your living space because it could put out small carbon particles, which are not good to breathe.
