4,000 Watt Mini Split System Advice

Hey dudes,

I'm done with messing around with the portable AC, those things are crap man. I'm looking to get a mini split system and was wondering which were the best to cool a 4,000 watt flower room. I am currently running 2400 watts with air cooled lights. There is a a carbon filter and a 705 CFM fan connected to the first light, going through the second, going around a bend and then thru the 3rd light, 4th light, then out. I have an Active Air 14,000 BTU portable AC and its not doing a damn thing. This is a sealed room and I have the heat exhaust going through a vet in the ceiling and the intake coming from a hole in the wall. I think my problem is that the exhaust tube is about 4 feet long. It's not doing the job and I'm done trying.

Do you think I should get another CFM fan to cool the lights even more?

I read that Mitsubishi is probably the best choice for a mini split AC. So I was wondering if any of these would be good? (links)

Mitsubishi is the way to go for sure. I have used them for years with no problems. The ones the grow store sells are not good I have heard and have problems all the time (my friend that works at the hydro store said people call with problems all the time). You get what you pay for though.

In my 8k I use a 14" 1700cfm can-fan max-fan that works killer. I would go with at least a 10" max-fan for 4 lights. Max-fans kick ass, they move a ton of air. Great quality fans too, I have multiple 10",12",14", and 16" ones that I've had for years with no issues. They are the only fan I will buy now a days, I really recommend them.

Nice! So you got a couple of reducers on the fans? I'm pretty sure the hydro store near me sells them used for good prices. I'll pick one up. I'm looking to spend $1,200 on a mini split I still can't decide.
 
Yea I reduced it down to 8" from 14" to connect with my lights and I get killer air flow still. That 14" max fan is killer, moves so much air. Cools 8 1k lights no problem and I'm in nor-cal where it gets in the 100s during the summer.

That sucks you had to learn the hard way, but yup! Portable AC's are garbage, they SUCK.
This is what we go by for sealed rooms, and it always works:
4000 btu of AC per 1k watts of air-cooled lights.
6000 btu of AC per 1k watts of bare bulb/non-aircooled light.

The above formula works with a co2 gen, and dehu/s.

Keep this in mind when picking the AC. :-)

My buddy runs 6k on a 2 ton mr slim withh open bulbs and cools itwith no problem. He is in ca too. he also uses a passive system and brings in outsidr air so i dont think that formula runs true.

I'm talking sealed growroom yo;-)
And in NorCal, where it gets 100 plus during the day, and nights are warm in summer.
But i do know that lets say: Monterey,Salinas,watsonville, and santa cruz don't need quite as much AC in a sealed room(i've done it, that's how I know:-) ). But again, I was talking most of NorCal, and sealed room.

Which do you think is better AirCon or Willis? They both have Mitsubishi compressors.

Since I have a carbon filter taking air out, Can the AC act as the fresh air coming in? If I use the hole 12" hole in my wall that is going to be intaking hot air from the attic above the garage, especially during summer.
 
You need more fan for lights bro. that's 1 oroblem. I would say a minimum of 4k ideally 6know btu per light If in hot climate. If you have a big room get a dual zone setup and have a unit on opposite walls

The 16 SEER is made in China so scratch that one. U think I need another CFM fan? So one fan at the beginning with the carbon filter and another at beginning of the other set up lights?
