The first pic is the girls (these are all feminized auto-bloom Kannabia) in their lil grow nets. Next pic shows them in the pots. I'm using Miracle Gro Organic Choice Potting Soil. It's very mild. After this, I put them back under the LEDs and adjusted the height. On weekends and when I can risk it I'll be putting the girls under sunlight, as well.
I am doing something different on this grow, a very small change but which I think may make a huge difference.
The last grow was pretty good, I harvested plenty of buds but when I went back to look at the roots of those grows, I noticed something strange: there was a fine network of roots running along the bottom of the grow soil, but when I broke it up, there was nothing in the middle. It was as if the roots had gone to the side, followed the side of the container, hit the bottom, and continued spreading along the bottom. There was nothing going directly down from the bottom of the plant.
When I observed the netting, the small plug which I use to start all the seeds, it was very hard. In fact, the bottom was so hard, the roots had never penetrated and come out the bottom. They had all come out the side, and wimpy roots at that.
Even before I discovered that, for some reason, this time I chose to take off the netting. I think before, I had moved the plants to pot so soon that I was afraid to remove the netting for fear of breaking the soil ball.
So I am expecting that this time I will have a much stronger root system. In fact, last grow, I had to grow them WAY longer than I should have, at least two times as long before harvest, maybe three-- it was almost six months before harvest. I am wondering how much the weak root system had to do with that. We shall see.
It's been 2 weeks since I planted these girls, and their time to harvest is 9-10 weeks. I can never remember if the 9 weeks is after they start budding, or from the time they pop. At any rate, it certainly shouldn't be 6 months.
This is my first time growing auto.
Comments are welcome, but please don't tell me to get different lights. We're stuck with this, for various reasons and it's worked before.
The areas where I tend to have challenges are nuting and watering, though I now have a regimen for that, which seems to work: 7 oz of water for each plant, every 2-3 days. It's hot here and by watering a small, specific amount, it dries out quickly. And for nutes I just put a drop of 10/15/10 in the 7 oz water.
But I'm sure there are better ways to bloom than that, it's just that that's proven safe, every time.
If anyone has any experience with the smoke from this DNA or with grow tips particular to auto, feel free to comment-- I couldn't find any of the big name autos (they're always sold out) and these (whatever Kannabia is) seemed to be middle-of-the-road, at about $43/5 seeds.
