4 weeks in flower - light interrupted - hermie help

Hello fellow rollitup members, I am in dire need of help.

I am on here multiple times each day, but have never posted, as I have never needed to.

I have a dire problem:

This is my first grow, I reseaqrched thoroughly prior to growing, along the lines of reading up to 4 hours per day online for a month, now the unexpected has struck and I really dont know what to do:

I have 11 girls, they are 4 weeks and 2 days into flower, 5 are big budda cheese, the other 6 are of unknown strains but appear to be sativa like under observation.

I have nursed these girls better than I nurse my own kids, paying careful attention to nutrients, light patterns, soil, ph, humidity, etc etc etc.

The situation is this:

48 hours ago the power to my growroom was cut, my normal light cycle is 12/12, the lights go on at 6pm and off at 6am.

The power was cut at 4am, and power returned at 6pm, (14 hours)

However I was unaware of this power cut, my timer only runs when there is power running to it, so although the power returned at 6pm, the light will have also come on at 6pm, but only for 2 hours, and then gone into another period of 12 hours of dark.

I only found this out today as I went to my grow room area at 5pm and the light was on!!!

On questioning of my household I was then informed of this 14 hour power cut.

Heres the big problem:

It looks like the light stress has caused at least 2 of my girls to hermie, small ball like growths have spurted out of the lovely thc coated bud.

What am I to do?

I know the options but dont know which is best to go for given my situation:

----------------------------------

1. Kill and dry anything that looks hermie

2. Go on a ball picking mission, anything that looks anything ball like is to be carefully removed (I will happily do this each day for the rest of grow)

3. Stick anything hermie looking in the back garden (live in uk)

4. Just leave them be, let the sacks infect the rest of crop and go on a seed picking mission at the end (dont like this one)

5. Any other options/advice?

----------------------------------------

Also light issue, when I found the grow-room light on today at 5pm, I immediately switched it off in fear of forcing re-vegging, but I am lost as to how to re-initiate my cycle in the best way.

The plants had 12 hours on, 12 hours off for 4 weeks, then due to f**k up had 12 hours on, 26 hours off, 2 hours on, 12 hours off, 6 hours on, and currently have been off for 5 hours.

Please please help guys, I will be frantically logging in here every 60 seconds till I get a reply.

Should I go straight back to 12/12 now and hope for the best (as in 12 hours of light as of now?) I need to reduce the possibility of the others going hermie too...

And what do I do with these potential hermies, the ones showing ball like spurts within the bud?

I will go now and try to get some pix but my camera is pretty poor

Eagerly awaiting your replies....

I will field this question because I just had to chop a hermie myself. Cut it down immediately!!! I cannot stress this enough. I did not cut mine right away thinking I could pick off the little balls...not a good idea. These things can hide like you can't believe. Needless to say it pollinated my other 2 females and now I have seeded bud. I was still able to smoke the hermie though. It wasn't super potent but it gets me high. Anyways you can always make hash or butter. Best of luck my friend.

Thanks for advice Dr, so currently looks like just 2 are hermies, unfortunately for me one of them is the biggest and fattest of my girls :(

Slaughter is suggested then, anyone else wish to add to this?

I can well believe that the balls are real hard to keep picking, I think hermie slaughter may be best, will free up some room for my other girls I suppose as its a little cramped in there.

Anyone add to this? or help with the light situaton? I think a 12 hour blast now may be best to prevent further hermies developing from too little light, what a complete f**k up :(

If you are in the U.S. I suggest going to Lowes and purchasing a digital timer with battery back up. I have 2 of them and they are like $18. That way if the power goes out at least it will stay on the same cycle. I know how heartbreaking it is to have to chop a plant early but it's better than seeding your whole crop. If you have a way to quarantine the hermies from the other females you could try and pick off the pollen sacks. Just be careful not to bring pollen on your clothes or hands into your flowering room. Welcome to RIU!

I am sure you are right with the chopping doc, I am gonna go and carefully take the hermies out of the flower room in a mo, bring em up to my bedrrom, say a few final goodbyes, chop and hang, (too see if theres out smokable from em - i know them will have chems but what the hell....)

Think I am gonna give them the 12 hours of light now and get back to the 12/12 cysle and hope and pray for the best with the remaining 9.

Any lurkers, please please give your thoughts, 100 replies to this thread may not be enough, its life and death to my girls when they are sooo close to the finishing line

Please post pictures. You should not have gotten hermies from your situation. Light stress from screwing with the light cycles is only a problem if the plants can't get 12 hours of uninterrupted darkness. You have gotten more than enough darkness and shouldn't be having problems.

Please post pics before chopping down any plants. Those "Balls" might just be the calyx's forming and swelling as they do at about 5 weeks.

Your situation isn't any worse than a cloudy day in nature.

I think he's got some bagseed in there too soooo.....I questioned whether that light interruption caused the hermies. Who knows. But I agree...post some pics before comdemning them.

Ok guys, I will get some pix up, give me 20 minutes and they will be up, thanks guys
True...I forget often that when people say "unknown strains" that they are referring to bagseed. I'm in socal so all of my "unknown strains" are from clones at dispensaries. They are generally still all female all the way, just not what they are claimed to be when you buy them.

...waiting for pics.

all i can say is to get it back onto its regular 12/12

but laserbrn is right. all i've ever heard about hermi is an interruption of, or not complete darkness.

these pictures are to bad of quality to know anything. you need a macro mode and focus . get the camere a couple inches away from what you are trying to show ups

the pics are poor quality, I think he is talking about the little yellow bits (thats where the arows are pointing)

look like maybe male flowers in middle of bud to me, you need to get a better camera or one with a macro option to get a better quality pic
