400$ 400w 400g Challenge..

Ok, so I have been mulling over the options, reading ALOT, wife gave the green flag. I'm about to pull the trigger. Want to pull 400g about 2-3 times yearly, with 400w of mh/hps. So, what do you think? Given those criteria? Dwc? Hempy? Ebb and flow? then for let, sog or scrog? Only one concern, hurricane prone area, so power outages possible if not probable. So for 400$ what would you do?

Does the $400 include the cost of the light?
I'd go DWC because buckets are cheap and yeild really well. I use H&G nutes (aqua flakes, roots excelurator, and shooting powder). You probably won't have the money for the roots excelurator (it's pricey but totally worth it). You can get a 6" 250cfm duct fan for like $30 at home depot, that should keep a small closet cool.

It does, so far my shopping cart, minus the res and exhaust fan comes out to 300$. Included are the following..

400w cool tube mh and hps w/ digital ballast
10l clay pellets
8 6 inch net pots
General hydroponics ph test and up/down
Ecoplus 35 pump
2x4 inch round airstones
Advance nutrients grow 1l
Already have the exhaust fan, 80l cooler for res, and the air tubing..

Plus some moms I have had outdoor I want to clone, or buy seeds, so far my cost for the above list is 295$ so I still have a bill for quality seeds.

You'll want to have an oscillating fan in the room to help circulation. Are you running the room exhaust and the light exhaust together? I don't know if that would really work well.
As far as handling probable power outages get a UPS for a computer. At the very least your air pumps need backup because your plants can die pretty quickly if the pumps go off. You can remove the battery the UPS has and replace it with a car battery or even better a marine battery. Those could even run your lights for a while.

Ups? I have one of those I never use. As for the exhaust, I was thinking carbon filters around 12 inch intake screen, then that 6 inch exhaust through the cool tube, and then fanned into the floor. Which is elevated about 8 inch above grassy area. Good for hiding heat out put? Oscillating fan, got that already. If I need to just use it for the light I can, the room is pretty big, so the smell might be controllable at this small a level, also forgot Mylar rescue blankets for the walls.

The only way you're gonna pull 400g off 400w every harvest is by doing a ScrOG and growing in hydroponics.
I'd say do a flood and drain hydroponic ScrOG w/ CO2 enrichment. If you're a little more clever you should do a RDWC scrog for max efficiency.

You can make a CO2 generator with yeast and sugar. There's a good diy CO2 writeup on here.

I have done small ebb and flow set up before, pretty simple. I was thinking dwc scrog, 8 plants, 8 sq feet screen. Would the extra put into an ebb and flow pump setup put out more than the dwc? Like I said, still got a bill and can apply it anywhere to get better yield. So all ideas are appreciated.

Hempy buckets are very cheap and effective and do 8 plants aim for 50g apeice, shouldnt be to hard..Add C02 boost with the 100 bucks boss...But if ur tap water is real bad then i would prolly do RO water....

for that advanced nute Grow to work you will need to get the bloom and micro also it is a 3 part system you used all 3 parts in Veg and flowerr

You'll need bloom and micro starting out? Our tap is somewhat hard, But I'm thinking I can talk the wife into a softener and RO sys without it taking away from that last 100$. So I think I'll check on co2 system with that.

Found a reg for 40 and a tank for 55. Only leaves a few buck for those nutes, think I will wait till flower to get the co2. Would it make a huge amount of difference in veg?

Don't know about veg, but I' sure you wont get anywhere near your goal w/o CO2, so you'll need it eventually. This sound like your first grow. If it is you should worry more about finishing without deficiencies or bugs....or just finishing before you start worrying about yeild.

Well, I grew passive ebb and flow with wick system before, 10 years or so, ok yield, nothing spectacular, but spending 500$ a month on green is getting old. So, I want to set up to grow about a lb at least twice yearly, possibly 3. Seems from the grows I have seen on RIU its possible. I should have everything minus the co2 setup within a week or so, and will start my journal then. I'm thinking two of my smaller moms, master kush, will be my first trial. If I don't make my goal first run I won't be terribly disappointed, just learn and start over, I thinks it's attainable, seeing how others here have done it.

In a dwc what would be the most plants you would suggest in a cooler? 2, 4, 8? I could just do two and veg longer before the scrog, that would give a little more time to attain the co2.
