400 watt HPS 400 watt MH

image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg Okayimage.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg so, I have a couple grows under my belt, I'm hands down no expert. I was wondering. What are the benefits of using a 400 watt combo of HPS & MH? Or should I just go with 2 HPS. I know yeild will increase with 2 HPS, but will quality? Is it that much better to have the larger light spectrum, or should I just stick with 2 HPS and keep the yield in mind. ----------
4x4x6.5 grow tent
Still waiting on the rest of my gear to show up in the mail.
Just looking for some tips on lighting at the moment.
---_------------ just some pics of the last grows I've done, wish I had taken more:(

I think the quality would benefit from from using the two together as this would allow much better spectrum. I don't know if you would see much of yield difference with only 2 400 watters and in that amount of space by using just HPS over both. I could be wrong.

I am about to try out those new 330 watt cmh bulbs Philips has out to replace the older 400 watt MH bulbs and using them start to finish. I'll let you know in a few months. I am leaning away from HPS completely myself.

Breeder DJ short uses HPS/MH in a 1:1 ratio like you with your 400W HPS and a 400W MH.

I like using HPS and MH in a 2:1 ratio. for better bag appeal and more weight.

However people do all MH for best quality at a sacrifice for yield.

In my opinon a _fresh_ HPS bulb with enhanced blue like the hortilux hps EN, is the best.

Yeah keep me posted, I love to read about everyone's different experiences. I've trolled this site for many years, I would consider myself pretty knowlageable, but with little experience..... I have high hopes for this next grow, I'll be doing it the way I want, with no expense spared(besides the electric bill) without having to but heads with partners, so I'm very exited, and nervous......out of curiosity, how long have you been growing? Do you have experience with this size grow, if so, what types of yields have you experienced? Yield is important, but quality is too, I've read a lot of people yield about a pound with this type of grow? I know genetics matter, I'm still deciding on a strain, but w/e I choose its will be some top of the line stuff. Do you have any suggestions on seed farmers? I have heard great things about Bohdi. This topic may be for a different thread, feel free to brush it off.

I've been growing off and on for quite a few years. I pretty much had to teach myself through shit loads of reading how to grow. Nobody I ever knew grew weed. Back then everybody would rather cook dope. I would say I have a moderate amount of experience but no expert. The way I grow I only yield a few ounces per plant. I grow smaller plants in numbers as opposed to large ones. I don't have the ceiling heigth and have discovered I don't care for scrog nets either. So I don't grow monsters. I manage a few tents and a few tables, nothing commercial by any means. Still experimenting with what works and what works better, cheaper.

I'm going to do the scrog method, I have seen very good results with topping and I know it works wonders(strain dependent of course) so you just let your grow all natural'? What type of strains have you dabbled with? You buy clones, or seeds?

I still top and crop them out a little but no, I don't get crazy with it and scrog them out. I've used scrog screens in the past and they are more of a pain, for me anyways. I like to be able to move the plants, or completely remove them all-together. When one herms out or gets mites I like to be able to just grab it and throw it in the trash, not cut it out of the scrog netting.
As far as strains, seeds, clones and genetics go. I'm fucked lol. I live in the unfriendly midwest-no access to clones, seeds, or anything really. I have been growing bag seeds until recently. I have 4 White Widow plants in veg now, I got the seeds from seedsman seed company. Tried Herbies before but they got intercepted by customs. Plan is to grow these 4 widows out, clone them, keep the females and repeat. I will be growing only WW for a while to get the whole perpetual thing dialed in with hopefully good genetics. We'll see...

I ran 2 600w HPS until today. Plants are probably about 3 weeks out and I just switched out one HPS for 10K MH
