alright, my new plants goin in today, and this'll be the firsst grow, im pretty excited about it. After i plant the root and rest of the seed, i am gonna be using just one cfl of medium wattage (forgot what i was) and i am ordering my 400 watt hps system this week sometime. This was the only light i was planning on having, would it work good to use that light for the veg period? how high should i grow my plant before i switch form the single cfl, to my 400 hps? and what time setting should i have for each growth stage with m cfl nd hps? sorry that its alot of diff questions, im not so intelligent with this stuff yet. Thanks.

The best veg light is MH. You can use HPS throughout but will not get the quality results of using MH for Veg.
The more watts the better. Get the plants as close as possible without burning them.
Veg as long as you wish then flip to 12-12 for the auto flowering process

You need to figure out the lighting problem. Everyone has there favorite vendor, around here its usually High Tech Garden Supply
You didnt mention how many plants, no matter. I vegged under my hps just fine in my opinion, I have a grow journal listed below, feel free to check it out.
Most, if not al the 400 watt lights over at htgsupply use the enhanced spectrum bulbs, which is better for vegging, he also uses the 430 watt bulb an additional boost. Hey, everything helps!
You could ues the hps now, if you had it, just raise it up, and lower it an inch or so every day. Til you get within 12" or so depending on which light you choose.
A glass shield will let you get a little closer than not having one. While yr there pick up the 3-pack of foxfarm nutes, unless you already have something planned?
I would grow them to 12 to 16" than go to flower. Remember when you switch to flower, they will atleast double in size.
Dont forget a fan!

Correct. Pot gets fooled into flowering by changing the light schedule to 12-12. It is a variety of plant called auto flowering.
You can veg for years if needed and that is how clone mothers stay alive without flowering. They keep the lights on 18 hours minimum and now you have a plant that is in perpetual veg. You can pull clones off her ass and she will replace the parts you raped.

I am gonna be growing probably two plants starting today, maybe one, cuz we only have one cfl bulb... but once i get the hps i'm growin more, also im growing high mids, didnt want to waste the fire seeds i have on my first grow, since it may end in disaster. But waht i eed to know is, with one cfl bulb of probably low wattage (got it at walmart) how long will i be able to last with it? i know that i weill eventually need the hps. thanks
