Mine never blew up but when i was young & dumb i tried it but the output will still be the same 150w. If you tried to put a smaller bulb in a bigger ballast it probably would blow but why try that unless you were tryin to save on the veg & flower cycle.

Also if the ballast is 150w it would only pull enough energy to light a 150w light. So it would probably be alright to use 400 BUT IT WOULD NOT BENEFIT U AT ALL.

Well that's just the thing. I only want 150W. I realized that 400W is WAY too much for what I'm doing. But I already wasted money on a 400W bulb and so now I want to purchase a 150W lighting fixture. So, could I do this and not have to worry about potentially killing anyone?

A 400w bulb shouldnt have set u back that much. Just save it for the future. Just to be safe though buy a 150w bulb they are too cheap anyways. It probably wont burn the house down but probably wont last as long as it should.

Dangerous shit my friend. Please don't put yourself at risk of burning down half your house, please don't risk your life, it's just not worth it. I know it's disappointing, but you should order a 150watt bulb. Also just double check tht the fitting isn't designed for a 1500watter... I made that mistake recently and freaked out lol.

If it is a mogul base it will support anything from 70w to 1500w as long as it a mogul fitting. The fitting does not have anything to do from the output of the ballast.

I have a 1500w mh ballast that i bought but never used because it puts out way too much heat & damn that bulb is huge & still screws into the same fitting as a150w.
