400Watt HPS help

so i just got what i thought was a good deal, turns out i got a nice sun system reflector, giant one with air coolability and the glass and a 400 watt ballast. was told needed new bulb so i got a new bulb and it wont fire the bulb up, ballast just hums. any1 have any ideas? im about 2 weeks from buddin and this will hurt me terribly

did the person you buy it from turn it on infront of you to make sure it works? If ballast turns on it could be a defective bulb but unlikely since its brand new. However, it's always possible.

yeah i think i only need the ignitor, the only question is how hard u think it would be to fix it, i mean i can get a brand new lumatek for 135

If you are sure you only need an ignitor...one for a 400W ballast can be found online for about $30. Replacing it is easy...just cut the wires from the old one, and wire in the new one. Or, you can get a ballast rebuild kit from HTGSupply for about $55 plus shipping.

Might want to make sure everything will work out all right before you pull the trigger and buy, of course.

now another ? is how much of a difference will i see if i were to buy a lumatek fully digital ballast over my magnetic one?
