To legitimately pronounce that "it makes no difference" you need to provide credible evidenceIt makes no difference. The 48 hours of darkness is just nonsense Stoner Science.
I'm not going and digging up the results right now, but they have been posted before. The dark period has the potential to increase levels by 1ish %. I personally havn't had the lab results done, but other growers have. Most people just choose to harvest before the lights come on for the day.To legitimately pronounce that "it makes no difference" you need to provide credible evidence

I think dispelling dark period's myth status would require presenting some legit lab work.
Your starch theory makes sense but i question the predictability of that outcome with so many dynamic variables. I wonder if there are studies of other crops testing for active compounds using the darkness hypothesis.I think with the evidence we do have about effect on starch (and other photoassimilates), it should be upgraded from "myth" to "potentially legitimate." I guess that is what I was trying to convey, not that it's fact but also not that it's myth, there isn't enough data either way yet.
I haven't seen (but also haven't looked for) research on effect on compounds of interest from a dark period, like cannabinoids and terpenes, though "dark reactions" and "light independent reactions" are good search terms to use.
Yea its best to have 24-48 hours of darkness before chop!hi do you think its better to have 48 hours dark before harvesting or do you think the extra light is better ??
i think it will make no difference but i will probably do turn them off tonight
Anecdotal evidence both supports and refutes the dark period.I'm not going and digging up the results right now, but they have been posted before. I have tried the dark period, and saw now noticable difference from other clones grown at the same time but not given the dark period. The only place you MIGHT notice any difference is in an actual lab test. Not from smoking it.
What part of "other growers have done the lab testing", don't you understand. I've seen the lab tests, well pictures of them. Why would someone lie and show fake tests or whatever? I'm not sure how long you've been growing or researching the cannabis plant, but I can tell you how long I have been. My first grow was in 2005, and I've been busy at it since always trying to learn more. So if you have something beneficial to add to this conversation please do.....Anecdotal evidence both supports and refutes the dark period.
There are so many unknowns about cannabis botany. Dismissing something as "stoner science " using stoner science =
The Dunning-Kruger effect is a type of cognitive bias in which people believe that they are smarter and more capable than they really are. Essentially, low ability people do not possess the skills needed to recognize their own incompetence.
I'd be interested in reviewing peer reviewed lit that investigates this topic. If you come across it please link it up.
I too have tried it... numerous times at that, on a side by side comparison.I've tried it and saw no noticeable difference
