48 hours of darkness...

The seed company for White Moscow says to maximize frosting up of the nugs, you should give them 48 hours of darkness just before clipping. Will a cardboard box be OK for this (it is outside, and will be till it's clipped)...

Can anyone attest to the validity of the claim?

Check her out; link in sig.

it makes little difference, if growing outdoors i doubt you will notice anything at all.

i say it makes little difference but i still prefer to do it lol.

i actually find it makes for easier trimming, i can harvest some strains without scissors because the leaves just seem to want to let go with very little resistance when they have been in the dark for two days.

It incresses the THC level by 2-3% . gives you a head start on The 3 days of darkness after harvest. easyer to trim, more smell, mmore flavor, bigger chanch of mold forming if RH is to high.

the buds are there most potent after they been in the dark

Cool! Sounds like I'll do it with all the little auto's I got 'bout ready to clip...More THC is ALWAYS better!

More chance of mold if RH is high? Sorry...what is RH?

This is true for any strain, Also when you do harvest, outdoors as well as indoors, do it before the sun comes up or lights come on. all the stored nutes move back to the roots where they stay untill the sun comes up the next morning, at that time they start there journey into the plants foliage. pick a leaf off before harvest the juices tast more chemical at the end of the day then they will at the begining. just a tip for a more flavourfull out door product!

OK, but if the plant is in total darkness (smartpot and all) for three days, won't that basically be the same? Open the box after three days, and...SNIP and clip? Even if it is late morning (which is when I will be doing it...)?

Yes this acually will throw the plant in an emergency crisis mode it will dump tricrome on those buds. Out door crops don't need the extended dark period, and it isn't a common practice with an outdoor grow because of the difficulty providing a compleatly dark enviroment outdoors. When creating darkness it needs to be as dark as night under a box, some light will find its way through, can you imagine someone trying to do this with a 100 plant patch? I understand we are talking about 1 plant, it will be benificial to some very small extent, try a 55 gl barrel if you are convinced it will do some good. I myself probably would concentrate more on getting it cut in the morning before sun-up, to prevent un flushed chem nutes stored in the roots, to travel. Get it before they make their journey back to the buds. This practice will probably benifit you more than a extended dark period on an outdoor grow. I have done it with a single plant, however it was not easy, like I said i flipped a 55 gal drum upside down and used that. The diffrence was a barely noticible. I have not repeated it.

OK. I will try to get to it in the early a.m.; but the box will be closed around the entire smartpot and plant, and ducttaped shut. If i do THAT overnight, at least, shouldn't that at least keep the nutes in the roots? Cause I do DOUBT I will be able to do it early aam...very seriously doubt it...
