the grow begins on page 5:leaf:

hello everyone. over a year ago i decided i want to grow, and one way or another something always got in the way. well, over that time i have slowly been acquiring both equipment and knowledge. i believe now is the perfect time to attempt my first grow.

got a 3 pack of blue dream in the mail today:
photo 4.jpg
not sure if i should pop 2 or all 3. any suggestions?

i'll be running the lucas formula from start to finish and 800 watts of light during flowering.
photo 5.jpg
i've got 2 hps bulbs, and 1 mh bulb. i've heard good things about mixed spectrum. should i run 1 hps 1 mh from the start? put in the mh sometime during flowering? if you guys swear by the mixed spectrum i'll give er' a go, otherwise i'm just going to KISS and stick with 2 hps.

here's the tent. this thing is amazing..very high quality. extremely glad i splurged for the gorilla tent.

dust shroom hooked onto 240cfm booster fan for intake. makes the tent look badass.

the last thing left to do is hookup z-wave technology to my lights and a/c. since the a/c unit isn't inside my tent the thermostat reads my room's temperature rather than the tent's. therefore it shuts off before it cools my tent to the right temperature. with z-wave i can place a thermostat in the tent and hook it up to a z-wave module then program my a/c to turn on/off at temperatures of my choice.

hooking it up to my lights allows me to control the light cycle without a physical timer.

all thoughts, comments, suggestions, etc. are more than welcome. i've learned a lot over this past year, but one thing i've learned is there is always more to learn; so teach me anything you know.

happy growing everyone:leaf: will keep this updated fo sho'

thanks everyone! so anyone wanna give their input on the couple questions i had?

2 plants in 3 gallon pots sound good?

mixed spectrum during flowering or double hps??

looking more for quality over yield. i figure at bare minimum i'll yield 8 oz off this setup, and that ill be plenty to last till next cycle.

2 things ccc..first..badass set up!!!..you'll. Get way over 8oz if you veg and train..2nd thing..you need to either drill a hole in the floor and attatch a fishpump hose to the drain on the a.c.,or set it on blocks with a bucket underneath..if its like my 2 acs..it will turn off when full of condensated water and you have to drain it still..if not it would suck big floppys to come home to a tent fulla dead ladies...
I'm also very interested in H.S.O. and their gear..hope it works out for ya..subbed!

Also..does the a.c. have the saftey feature? The one where it has to manually be restarted once the power is cut?

i'm not quite sure. i suppose i could flip the breaker on and off then check if the a/c turns back on.

woah didn't even think about this! i found a hole that was plugged up in the back of my a/c. i'm assuming i just shove a tube in there and lead it to a bucket? then once it fills up the water will automatically travel out that hole and lead into my drain bucket?

That is exactly the drainage port..if I remember correctly it 3/4in..I'm high rite now tho..lol..I myself have an old trailer so I drilled holes straight through the floor..I'm not worried about asthetics..the best way to deal with not drilling actually accomplishes something else..elevation in your a.c..idealy you should have it higher than your lights..cold air falls..if you can't drill holes for drainage, elevate it on centerblocks,at least 3 in higher than a 5gal bucket and have the drainage hose lead to it..
As far as the safety feature..get a power strip, plug in the a.c. to said strip and plug into any recepticle..turn the a.c. on,the flip the switch off on the power strip..then turn the power strip back on..if the a.c. doesn't turn back on then you have one with the feature..return it.

Perhaps the resivoir pressure in the a.c. might push the water out and up the side of a bucket..id not risk it.

ok then yeah i'll elevate the a/c and put a drainage bucket under it.

ahhh damn...just did the safety measure test. looks like my a/c doesn't kick back on when i switch the power back on...probably explains why my zwave isn't working. the zwave is turning the power off at the right temperature then turning it back on, but when the a/c re-receives power it doesn't kick back on..

so does this mean i need to purchase a different a/c? no way to return it as this was just an a/c laying around the house..if i do need a new one do you have any model recommendations which do not have that safety feature? i reckon zwave will work with one of those.

thanks for all the help rory i'd be lost on this subject without it.
killer looking setup. definetly sub'd.
killer tent and setup,in for tha shew.
appreciate the kind words y'all. looks like this will be on hold till i get the a/c issue under control. what model a/c units you guys have success with? i'm in the market now. looking to get one of decent quality. haven't skimped on quality yet with any equipment not gonna start now.

CCC Looks great, you seem like you have been doing your research

How is the temp in the room you are attempting to grow? Is it so hot the a/c is needed constantly?

Are you going to run air cooled hoods with these hps's/mh bulbs, if you cooled them down and the room the tent stays in remains under 75, you should be fine without the a/c, with just cooled hoods.

Either way looks great, don't hesitate to look into hempy buckets...

thanks jeff, i can't even imagine how much i've read over this past year lol. my room is the hottest in the house sadly..and i don't exactly live in a cold environment. i haven't tested but am willing to bet with just a t5 light on my tent could get upwards of 90 degrees with just ventilation and no a/c. i think for the area i live and ambient temperature of my room a/c will be necessary. plus, later on down the line i want to drop temperatures low during flowering to bring the color out in my buds.

i will be running air cooled hoods but honestly i think a/c is a necessity. my fan alone will not keep the room under 75 i know that for sure. i have looked into hempy buckets but that was after i had already purchased the pots i have. i decided not to drop anymore money into this grow until i get one under my belt. aside from the a/c of-course as it seems i am in need of one.

do you run a/c in your op?? you got some beautiful plants btw i think i could learn some decent training tips from observing your grows.

i gotta keep everything inside can't have an a/c unit sitting in a window or anything. i'm not legal. i'd like to shop for a/c units myself but i don't know how to tell if they have this safety feature i need to avoid...i think i'm going to have to wait for someone to recommend an a/c they've been using with success.
