5 gallon buckets

I’m about to transplant into 5 gallon buckets. I’m going to drill some holes in the bottom for runoff but should I drill smaller holes all over the sides too so the roots can breath like fabric pots do?

Drill the shit out of it. I always do it to all my plastic pots too.
 
Oh. I meant the sides. The fabric pots are supposed to be better cause the plant can breath through it I think. So that’s what I’m curious about.

That's what I'm testing out this grow. So far I'm loving it. The added airflow seems to help avoid moisture over retention.
 
These came out of smaller pots with Just a few holes in the bottom. It looks like the roots went straight for the holes, a.k.a. the oxygen so I believe I drill holes all around the bucket It’ll help with the Air ventilation to the roots

Also when I transplant should I cover some of the main stem near the Rockwool with more soil Basically making the plant look shorter . I was thinking maybe to the first node

The more you cover on top - - - the less room you are leaving for root developement. Only cover more stem as a matter of "support" for the plant.
 
I’m about to experiment with some 5gal and 2.5gal buckets ala Hempy.

I’m planning to put volcanic rock in the bottom of mine. PVC pipe going to the bottom for flush/bottom feed. Doing potting soil mix w/ 30% chunky perlite, and I’ll have a top layer with maybe a little clover or something.

I may be doing something wrong, but the plants that were starts in rockwool that I have had did not like to have said rockwool covered with soil until/unless they had root development that had vastly outgrown that said rockwool…. On a related note, I this year decided to avoid at all possible doing rockwool to soil. I’m liking the results thus far.

I haven't actually removed them from their containers yet as they just began flower but from what I have seen the rootball seems to be vigorous. (There are lots of roots just below the medium surface)
 
I've run bags and buckets. Sounds like a song title. Anyway I drill 1/4 inch or so holes in the bottom. Then I switched to 7 gal bags. The buckets are better in the end of flower for me as watering tends to be less often. But buckets early in transplant can be easy to overwater. Lots of aeration is key. It's a mixed bag...

I wouldn’t transplant them at all with it flowering
