Hey man, That bulb is made to go in a 3-way light fixture. You know the kind you turn the knob for how bright you want the light. Take them back and get the strait 42 watt bulbs.

now that i look at the package for my other 4 bulbs, they are the same. 3 settings. all the cfls there were like this. so if they have settings they can go on, i can just plug them into a normal plug in and what will the automatic setting be? i have noticed in my closet that 1/4 bulbs is not as bright as the others. its plugged into the shittiest socket.

They will work but you have to have the right fixture maybe, It's all in the switch. I'm not sure how bright they will be in a regular fixture. It might be at it's highest in the regular fixture. It will light up so put it in and see how it looks. When you put a regular bulb in a three way it works but only on one setting.

yeah i have this lamp that clicks but doesnt do anything with my regular bulbs in there, and on the 3rd click it just turns on. i guess thats what it is eh?
now that i look at my other bulbs i see that they are also tri light. 1/4 of those bulbs is on a shitty socket, and it is always slight less bright than the other 3 , but the other 3 seem to be nice and bright all the time.

Here's some more, they will not burn at full power in a one way socket from what I see here.

The way that three way sockets work is they have one neutral (the socket threads) and two hots. The two hots are only different in that the four positions of the switch are: Off-Off, Off-On, On-Off, and On-On. If you look at the business end of a 3-way bulb, you'll see that the two hots are a ring contact and a center contact. A normal 3-way bulb has two elements in it, one that's a low number of watts and one that's a high number.

A regular bulb (CFL, halogen or regular incandescent) only has the center contact for a hot, so it completely circumvents the ring contact.

End result, the four positions of the switch result in the following behavior when you have a regular bulb installed: Off, Off, On, On.

The reason the warning is there is because if the contacts are just out of alignment, there could be some sparking from intermittent contact between an oversized center contact and the socket's ring contact.

YMMV, but I've used many single-way bulbs (CFL and otherwise) in 3-way sockets and not had issues.

It has to have two separate connectors at the bottom of the socket to burn full power. A regular socket only has one in the middle no matter how good it is. And will not burn it full power. You would get the 100w or the 50w but not the 150w. Use them for now but just take them back and get the right ones when you can. Or get them online.

if i were you, i would take those bulbs back ASAP, because they are going to be no help throughout the grow process.

you can order CFLs online through 1000bulbs.com all the way up to 200w.

you can also check stealthhydro.com for CFLs, which they claim are made specifically for them

all can deliver to your house
