Im using a 400 watt air cooled light with only a 170/cfm blower, in an 2-1/2ft x 3-1/2ft x 8ft closet. In the summer temperatures reach about 85F. I think if I were to put a 600 watt in there I would definitely need an air conditioner. But i'm gonna get them someday.

Heat can reduce your yield so much it makes it not worthwhile. I have a closet that size too. I have a 400w hps that can be dimmed to 250. Now this closet is never closed with lights on. In fact it has top doors. I have 4 fans circulating air from the room the closet is in. If the doors were closed with lights on temps would soar. If the room temp gets to 75 it becomes a problem. I keep temps at plant tops under 80. My solution is to take the summer off. I could add enough AC to do it, but then that has to be ventilated outside and will smell. Taking the summer off and having that closet open works for me. Lower temps means greater yields and I get as much in 3 grows as I used to in 4.

right now i have the 250 mh with 100 watts of cfls. in dwc. the only other light i have is the 600 hps. temps hit range from 70-82 at the most. but it is still cold out hear and i do find myself opening the window sometimes already. i was gonna use ac during the summer in my bedroom. my plants are in my closet. so you guys think the 600 is too much for this space? probably i was thinking the same thing. i guess it wont hurt to try. also im growing 3 sweet seeds fast bud autos, 1 il diovolo Auto, a white widdow big bud cross, and an ak47. so 6 plants all feminized.

I think 600 will be way too much when the temp outside is over 70. Make sure you have a plan B before you try it.

As long as you got A/C, youll be fine. Dont let room temp go over ~90. I did DWC last summer and it was a problem keeping res temps down. 80 degrees is not too hot. In fact, I would say its pretty ideal. C02 production is more efficient at this level, so I would think plant growth is as well.
