Would a 600 watt be too much for a 2x4x5 grow tent?
That is correct. So its not so much the light intensity, but the temp? I do have cooling style light hood.with a cool tube no. as long as you're using an inline fan(i'd recommend a 6" with at least 400 cfm)and you are using one to exchange that air inside the tent at least twice a min then your temps should be fine.
im assuming thats 2 feet deep 4 feet long and 5 feet tall, yes?
Thanks SlimJim!!air cooled hood hydrofarm active air inline with the active air speed controller run two 6 inch one for exhaust and one for your closed loop lighting... meaning the tent needs to have 3 duct ports on top. One for exhaust/carbon filter and two so you can blow air in one side of your tent through your air cooled SEALED hood and out the other side of your tent. Do this and you wont run much high then ambeint temps in your tent so whatever the outside room temp is is what your tent will be by a few degrees. Also a fan blowing over the glass on your hood will give you better cooling and wont let heat build in your tent. Amazon you can pick up the fan controller combo for like $100 its what i run and i love the combo lets you adjust the speed and there is very little hum on the lowest setting. It took me months of reading reviews and such until i found a fan/controller combo that didnt make much hum and didnt cost 500. I just bought a new lumatek dimable that im trying out pretty impressed so far and you could even get a 1000w ballast dimmable so you can run the 1000 in winter and then pop a 600 watt bulb in for the summer months so that you dont have to run ac its what i do and i run my lights at night so year round its 76-80 ish in my tent during light on and 65-70 lights off. Hope this helps ya buddy and happy growing!
