600w vs. 1000w. Longer flowering time?

Like the title says, I have a 600w HPS and was wondering if the flowering period will be longer than it would if I used a 1000w. I am doing 6 plants in a 6'X6' room. I don't believe it makes a difference but a friend is trying to convince me it does. Anybody know the answer for sure? thanks in advance!

well, he's kinda right.. in a way.

the more lumens you have, the better the growth will be. Meaning, therefore.. possibly more growth rather it be vertically or horizontally, either way the more light you got.. the happier the plant.

peace.

It's all about light intensity and penetration strength. Regardless of which light you choose, the canopy doesn't do well with over about 5500 foot candles of intensity. That means that to the plants, the lights are the same, the 1000 will just cover a larger area. Neither light will change the flowering period for a strain.

A 600 watter will not fill in a 6x6 area adequately with light.

You will need a 1000 for that.

A 600 should be used for nothing bigger then 4x4

Lighting doesn't speed up flowering time. Thats mostly, a genetic trait.

In any case, too little lighiting may extend the flowering period if you use too little light and have too many plants. What happens is the top half of the plant flower finishes on time, but the lower half of the plants needs more time since they saw a crap load less light. Usually they're a week or two behind, but nothing major. You won't have this issue if you use a lot of lighting and don't over pack too many plants in one area.

For six full sized plants I'd use a 1000w. You need at least 200w of light per full sized plant. Any less and you may have the problem I wrote about above or you may get crapper yields. Choosing the right amount of plants is just as important as the amount of light you use.
