Tradition dictates that you got 2 sq. ft under a 70w if you use a horizontal reflector. I loathe tradition. You can flower any number of plants with it, not just 1 or two.

I agree with TheFaux, regardless of the power of the light, in the right space it will still work. However a 70w light will give you less than 2 sq ft. of flowering space, but again you can pack in as many plants into that space as you'd like. Lollypopping is great for a situation like this, remove the sidegrowth and you will be able to pack in maybe even 10 plants in 1 gallon grow bags into that space.

35 watts/sq.ft is very do-able. One gallon bags are going to take up about 7 inches each.... I 'd go with 8 1-gallon bags in 2 sq.ft but you could easily put 2 clones in each bag. That's 16 plants under 70w with a couple ounces at harvest. Not too shabby. ;-)

You'd only need to get 3 grams per clone to hit 2 ounces..... very do-able indeed.

damn too bad they dnt ship to you, they are great lights, i have the 150w hps from econ light, its not to hot either, i also did the remote ballast so the heat is out of the box, but im sure a 70w will give u good results, just cram asmany plants in there as u can, thats what im doing. look up the dr.bud method..like add 2 clones everyweek untilll its full. then in like 2 or 3 months, thers gonna be like 4 weeks were u harvrst every week of like 1-2/oz im gonna add 3clones a week for like 6-8, and when the first batch are done, harvest those 3 and pop in 3 more clones. goodluck.

its worthless. you probably don't have a ballast. you need to do some research on now HID lighting systems work.

i bought the light and it includes the ballast and the bulb and lso some photocell that i have to cover so i can controll the light with a timer.
soudy that`s a good method , going to research on it thanks

i got 2 70w hps in a 4 x 4 space, works well with scrog or lst, upgrading to 250w hps, planning on a shelf in the middle with a scrog up and one on the bottom. the 70w fixtures will be moved to the mother cabinet and the clone box so they are a good investment if you plan on upgrading. Also a mh bulb can be used in a hps fixture ( although it does reduce the life of the bulb ) but at like 15 bucks a peice who gives a shit.

thank cannabiscrusader for the info. i think my box would be 1x2x3 so i 70w may do the job, if not some CLF will help.
can i use a MH in the 70w hps fixture? that would be very good!

ya know i read that somewhere and i just tried it... turns out it dont work. Sorry for the bad info. But if your space is that low you better toss a screen on that bitch or at the very least lst. The 70 watters will do fine in that situation cause you can get them fairly close to the plant and they wont need to penetrate through any canopy cause there is nothing under it but a screen and some stems

had some free time on my hands and was thinking about your set up for some reason. U think about making a cool tube for those lights? i know at 70 w they wont get that hot, and if its the same fixture i have then its made for outdoor applications, so its all enclosed... but here are a few different suggestions.

I think u mentioned that it has a photoeye on it, disconnect it and put the switch leg from the transformer back to the light bypassing the eye. Then you can run a small peice of liquitight to the hole and crack the cover open using the hook provided on the cover to let it sort of hang. get a fan sucking out from the liquitight then you will have air movement directly in the housing of the light to keep it cool.

But then considering your hight limitaions.... id remove the reflecter bulb and all, extend the wiring to outside of the space. then either make a cheap cool tube out of flex duct and a hurricane lamp sheild ( as suggested numerous times on this awesome site) or just fit a peice of glass under the bulbs and get a fan up high sucking out the heat. I did read the other day that glass blocks the uv light needed for tch production, but with the amount of people using cool tubes.... you gotta think it doesnt matter that much.

But either way venting just the light will allow you to get it closer to the plants, but seperating the ballest and moving it out will give you more vertical room. Add a cool tube to the removing of the ballast and u got the best of both worlds to maximize the vertical deficiency of your set up.

Good info. yes i`m making a cool tube from a lapm i have alreadym with some duct and a pc cooling fan on the side extrwcting the heat from the lamp. the idea was to get the plant the closer they can to the light. the idea i have is insted of lowerring the lap, us something to get the plants the closer they can to the light and lower them as they grow.i have two different plans as for the thecnic.planAstar the grow from clones and veg the for about a week o so , and the flower. so the plant stays low and with only one cola (will cut lower branches). with this method maybe i can get more plants in thereplan bgoing for SCROG and LST. with only one or two plants. really dont know wich way to go. definitly the one with the higer yield. Recomendations?????

put them on a screen, youll get the same effect with less plants. And if they are clones then the vegging shouldnt take long at all. Ive tried both ways under the same light pretty much... screen is way better.
