I'm having trouble understanding this? Does anyone use a 70w HPS? It's not for plants I know, it works, but how? They don't plug in the wall do they? I found one on amazon it's a security light "dusk till dawn" I just don't understand this? It hurts to think about this, could anyone please let me in on this?

Thank you

Why not buy a real one that's actually for growing? I hear you need about 100W HID per plant for it to work well, so I don't think 70 would do that great. It may work, but definitely won't work for anything more than 1 plant, and even that is probably not going to do very well for it. Plus most people use MH for veg and HPS for flowering.

It prolly doesn't come with a plug, but you can wire one on real easy. You can grow a plant with that light and some supplemental cfl or something.

70 watt hps is about 6300 lumens. 6 23 watt is about 9600 lumens. if you need something small a 150 watt hps is about 16000 lumens and costs about 75 bucks. It already has a reflector for growing, has a plug, puts out more lumens, uses less watts, and is cheaper.

What part don't you understand? It's already been explained that a 70 watt HPS isn't going to provide a "lot of light". It has also been pointed out that a "$.50 plug" (a cheap hardware store part) can be added "Easy Peasy". The only thing left is the "Dusk to Dawn" part, is that what you are really asking about?

The "Dusk to Dawn" feature is mearly a "Light Sensor" that can be easily bypassed, taking it out of the circuit all together. In the DIY subforum, there are well detailed instructions on how to do the whole operation of converting a "Security Light" to a "Remote Ballast Growlight".
