8-100watt cfls?????

so a fellow grower is trying to convince me that he will have a successful grow planting bc big bud and using 8-100watt cfls i tried telling him how ridiculous that was but he insists so what do you think?

if it matters he is growing them indoor in soil

"he will have a successful grow" is kind of subjective. Of course they will grow, bud and harvest. Yield and potency probably will not compare to say, a 1000w hps setup.but yes they will live.

Also unless he has the big CFL then they are probably about 26W lights, that give off the lumen equivalent of a 100w incandescent. way differetn than a 100w CFL which is closer to a 300w (without looking it up, im guessing)

Again tho, 8 of those will be pretty frikn bright, and spread about the plant for a nice distribution, will give decent results.

You can grow using CFL's! is it best? NO! but it can be done and it can be done very easily! I currently am experimenting w/ CFL's and LED's, CFL's right now til im done with harvest, then just LED, and after all that im going to try with both! CFL's come in 2 different Watts, the equilavent Watts which is not important, u need to look at the actual watts produced its a huge number decrease! Also u have to use 6500k Daylight Bulbs for Veg and 2700k Soft White Bulbs for Flowering, im a little iffy on the Flowering, but i know Vegging with CFL's is just as good as anything in my opinion.

Yea if ur not using a 100 watts of actual watts and are using the 100watt equivalents then the buds will be very airy, not dense nugs at all! which means less weight which means less money and we gotta make that paper boo boo!!

8 23watt CFL's is sufficient to grow a decent single plant with...Don't expect miracle monsters, but he should be able to pull a few oz off a single plant with that many CFL's if done properly and he keeps them close(and uses reflectors to keep as much light penetrating the plant as possible), he'll be fine :)

well he said his friend is growing them so i am assuming he has more then one plant so 8 23w is not up to par
