8x10 attic room build

before anyone even says anything. yes, i know attics are bad grow spaces. but thats all we got.

the plan is to convert the area above the garage in a grow room. 8'x10'

-we started by adding 2x4's in the floor beams to create a floor. then we stuffed with insulation and covered it with plywood.
-next we added 2x4's to frame out the walls.
-ran some wiring and made 2 electrical outlet boxes.
-walls are made of 1/2" foam board with reflective material. we went with foam to keep heat out and cool in.
-still have to decide if we are making the ceiling flat or angled. probably flat.
-lastly add the door and insulate above the ceilings.
-and then get all grow equipment

the plan:
we r growing in the gulf coast area. so its gonna get HOT! we wont be growing in summer, so we hope this is going to work. trying to decide between 1000W or 2 1000W lights, with vented hoods. 8" exhaust with carbon filter. intake will be from shaded side of the house. we want to run a 12k or 18k BTU window A/C and a dehumidifier. the surrounding attic will be vented also, but will be pulling in fresh outside air, hopefully somewhat cooling the rooms outer environment.

because of time constraints and low ceiling we r going to grow Critical Kush from Barney's, and do a very short veg. probably 30days. i hope thats long enough, but should keep the plants small with a few toppings. growing in soil to keep maintenance down.


any thoughts or tips?

Sick room friend! Looks like its going to be a lot of fun. And I think if your going 18k btu a/c u can grow in any season u fucking want. 2 lights and only kush every day. Have fun.

quick question for people who run a/c;
what do you set you exhaust fan temp to and what temp do you run your a/c at?

I don't think attics are bad grow areas. I think most people don't want to do whats necessary to make them good areas... Frame it up, insulate it (sides and top), get fresh air in/out, and I think you should be just fine.

That place looks nice! and youve already done alot.

I grow in a set up that looks very much like what you will have when you are done. I only run in spring and fall and it works out better than most people who haven't tried it, think it would. What kind of temps do you have fall-winter-spring where you are at? Here we see 25-60 F in spring and fall. With winter, we can see anything from -10 to 45 F but average around 28 F or so. I don't grow through the winter because I just don't want to buy that much heat when the lights are out. I get way more weed than I need anyhow from the two runs I do make. I give away the vast majority and still have plenty for myself.

I'm in the south so summers get 90-120F!! October-April are 60-85F.
Tomorrow we r getting the equipment, so we r gonna test run a few days to get it all sorted before seeds arrive!
This month has been 60-75. And getting warmer fast! :/

ROOM UPDATE:
finally ALMOST done haha just waiting on some equipment to come in the mail.

we ended up getting 1 1000W light, switchable ballast, with a predator 6" hood.
the room is going to be sealed. running an 8kBTU a/c and 3 exhale co2 bags.

when we started building this room we thought we would be done in a day or 2 easy. total it ended up take about 5 full days of work! lots of little time consuming things pop up that need to be addressed. at least thats how it was for me and my first grow room.

in the next 3 days my 2 fans, and seeds should arrive! excited to finally kick off this grow!

finally finished!!

1000w light all hooked up. almost broke the glass when trying to put a MH bulb in. I loosened 1 side of clips and the glass just fell, luckily i was holding it when it did. i ran all the ducting and fans.

a/c got put in.

got 6mil plastic and lined the floor, and up 6" on the wall incase of spills.

dehumidifier installed, and hooked up to the CAP AIR-1.

Seeds started under T8 light!!
I'll probably make a grow journal once they break soil

i ordered a 10pack of Critial Kush fem from Barney's. with it came 5 Kerala X Skunk, and 2 Delicious Carmelo fem..
since its my first serious grow, im gonna run the free seeds and 2 Critical Kushes first just so i dont ruin all the good ones while learning.

we got the General Organics GO box. superthrive, hygrozyme, and great white.
also picked up Exhale CO2 bags, because its going to get hot around our room and we just wanted to seal it off. didnt have enough money for a real co2 set up :/
got the seeds under a t8 right now. hoping to see some lil sprouts in a day or 2.
ill post a journal when they do pop, and ill link back here so people can see whats good with the room.

Promix isnt a coco based medium.

Its mostly sphagnum moss and holds water for a solid 2-3 days before it needs watering.

I will be starting an attic build within the next couple days myself (first real grow), my attic is very spacious so i dont have to worry about any decon. but overall i think the challange is gonna be getting cool fresh air without an ac. im runnng a 300w led setup....well will be, so im not sure ill need an ac. im not sure were im going with this (im kinda baked) but im rootin for ya.lol

i dont know LED's at all, but sounds cool.. post back here so i can see whats good.

I used an attic for years with great results. If you are worried about height invest in a mover. You can still vent your hood by running guide wires through it and the flex hose. Takes a little adjustment to get it right but works great. If done properly your flex hose will accordion up nicely.

Looks sick man. I wish I had that much attic space. I'm growing in a 4'x4'5' attic space. Don't listen to any haters, if you can keep it cool, attics work great. The chances of a guest stumbling on your grow room is near zero.

I wonder if you can figure out an automatic watering system,maybe set a rainbird sprinkler system up?

Seems my crew sometimes endures 100+farinhiet under the 1000w and they drink 20 gallons in 48 hrs
