hey all,
my friend recently gave me a 90w LED grow light. It doesnt have a name brand but he said he paid around $200 for it. Im going to probably run it with some of my other HPS lights. But my question is, about how effective is this compared to a HPS light? About how much is it equal to a HPS? Anyone have one of these and have any input?

Leds are good for small set ups less heat , hps for bigger set ups but if you got the money leds all the way. You need 4 or 5 90 watt ufos to match a 600watt hps. If you have ever read this a 90watt ufo led = a 400watt hps that is bs, dont believe that ebay scam tactic they just want your hard earned money for the cheap ass made in china light that will burn out in about 2 months so if it was free its a good deal . There are some good led panels out now like the 357 magnum that will grow some of the best shit you have ever seen. All the buds i've smoked that have been grown under leds have been super tight and sticky with no heat stress. Plants look healthier under leds as its getting more spectrums of light and they work just fine for flower stage. Also the Blackstar led panels seem to be well made in china light and has grown some nice plants haven't had a problem after 5 months of use with the 240 watt panels. A 90 watt led can grow 1 small plant like a lowryder.

There is no way to be sure without knowing more specifics about its make, but if its a 90w round LED for $200 its probably crap with 1w diodes and wide lens angles if any at all. Also a pretty good chance it doesn't even actually use a whole 90w

A blackstar '240' (140w) for $250 is the cheapest LED on the market I'd consider buying. Although there should be somebody out there selling proper 3w good lens and wavelength round panels because I'm pretty sure I saw it once...

You gotta figure out who made it dude, I think HTGsupply actually makes round <100w panels that do use 3w diodes but I don't know if they're good or not (although I've never seen a crappy 3w diode grow). Some guy had ordered a 2nd one and the pics of the new one looked like the good stuff on my panel (compared to the crappy 1w diodes most UFOs use).

PS: people mean round/UFO right? Many companies refer to their round LEDs as UFOs correct? No company has that copyrighted do they? I don't want to be using that term to freely if it is
