Sup guys-n-gals:
Been on and off on this website inquiring a lot of information on how to get my first grow started. Always said i was ready to grow but still found myself with many obstacles to jump over. NOW, here i am! Ready to GROW! first off my grow room and info:
Closet: L: 4'7'' x W: 5'10'' = 23.97 Sqaure Feet. So lets just say 25 square feet. With a height of 7 feet 10 inches. Covered in Mylar.
Ventilation: two 6 inchcentrifugal fans; one for exhaust with carbon filter and one for intake for fresh outdoor air. See pics for detail. My tubing goes straight out to the Roof. (note that i have 2 "The Speedster" motor speed controls for both fans.)
Lights: ONE 600 watt Apollo Lighting Kit with Metal Halide for Vegetative Stage and High Pressure Sodium for Flowering. I will also be surrounding my plants with 2700k and 6500k CFL's. Planning to use my 2700k's with the Metal Halide and the 6500k's with the High Pressure Sodium. (What are your opinions on this? Guy at my brew and grow said they wont make a difference since i have a 600w Metal Halide.)
Media: Roots Organics Formula 707.
Pots: Aurora Fabric Roots Pots (5gallon.)
Nutrients: Roots Organics 5ml Feeding Schedule: http://aurorainnovations.com/AuroraI...ngSchedule.pdf
Ph: Hanna instruments Ph Checker and Advanced Nutrients Ph up and down.
Water: Reverse Osmosis Filtered Water.
There ya' go. So ... Now. I want to start germinating my seeds but cant decide whether to go with the moist paper towel method and then transplant the germinated seed straight into soil, or buy some Rapid Rooters and cover them in plastic lids then transplant them over to soil when i see some roots peeking out of them. What do you think is best?
Also, how much water is needed to water a 5 gal container?
I finally opened up my Hanna Ph Checker to play with, and noticed that the Ph levels were jumping around constantly and never settled on a specific number. From 7.3 to 8.0, it just kept jumping. Do i need to calibrate this instrument like it says in the directions? if so, poor salesmanship from Brew and Grow for not informing me of this. Directions call to Dip the tip of the electrode (bottom 4 cm/
1½") in pH 7.01 buffer solution at room temperature. Allow the reading to stabilize then Use a small screwdriver to adjust the pH7
trimmer until the display reads "pH 7.01". WTF is Ph 7.01 solution and why didn't the salesperson mention it before? here is a link the operating manual: http://www.hannainst.com/manuals/manHI_98103.pdf
One last question: when i figure out my Ph tester, do i calibrate my water to Ph 6.5 THEN add my nutrient Mix to it? Or do i add my nutrients first, then calibrate. Do my nutrients affect the Ph level of my water?
Sorry if all my questions are annoying you professionals, im a newbie.
Here are some pics of my little Project.
Thanks in advance for all your time and cooperation.
