99.9% THCa

Preparation of crystalline THCA

1. Extract fresh plant material with 0.1% acetic acid v/v in hexane. Filter and remove solvent by rotavap. The purpose of the acidified extraction solvent is to minimise ionization of the cannabinoid acid which would hinder subsequent purification steps

2. Pass the THCA rich solution through a column packed with Sephadex-LH20, eluting with 2:1 chloroform/dichloromethane. Collect the THCA-rich fraction.

3. Redissolve the crude THCA in methanol, filter insoluble material, remove solvent with rotavap

4. Redissolve crude THCA in pentane, filter, and rotavap to give THCA crystals.

There's a separate extracts and concentrates forum, it's just way the hell down the list. Why? You'd have to ask the site designer. But of course you can purify THCA or THC with chromatography, just that it's a huge pain so nobody would actually want to do it.

Ahh yes I see the proper place for this thread now my bad =/ not to sure how to move this.

Ye chromatography is a huge pain and doing this also a waste of bud/trim but i thought I may as well share the info there are people like me that do stuff like this for the hell of it.

A moderator will probably get around to moving it eventually. I've tried a few ways of getting THCA but they never work well and just ends up wasting product. Just gave up on it. I think dry sifting makes the best product really. Could squeeze the resin out of it but it's actually more convenient to handle as it is. Pure resin is harsh as fuck and doesn't even get me as high as resin spread out on something, like bottom bud. There seems to be an optimal concentration for best absorption. Beyond that, it doesn't work as well. The optimal concentration appears to be to add the extract from all the trim of a batch to the bud of the batch, making it feel hash-like. It's probably around 25-30% THC at that point, as potent as the strongest natural weed on earth.

But actually the extract makes the weed harsh. Recently I tried a new thing, dusting buds with dry sift. When they're somewhat dry but still tacky is the time. You just put the buds in a bowl, I use a stainless one because it's light, and put dried and crushed trim in a "bag" of poly mesh and shake it over the bowl, mixing the buds around as they get dusted. I kind of squeeze it lightly with my hand to press it in as I mix. When it doesn't look tan color anymore you know it got pressed in good. So then I dried it out as usual. It gave it a very noticeably improved flavor and smell in addition to increasing potency, and also it wasn't harsh like the extract was when applied to the buds. It was a premium product. You wouldn't really know by looking at it other than it was a little more beige colored than normal bud.
