A few questions regarding the addition/ventilation of a 4'x8' tent.

We will be running two 600w HPS vented hoods, Digital ballasts. The tent has 6" ports for intake/exhaust.

1. Will I be OK with 6" inline fan (454 cfm) or should I bump it up to an 8"? Would I encounter any problems using the 8" with 6" ducting? I understand, obviously, that adapters will be needed.

your fine .........if this is for temp control reason then u might want the 8 inch but that is massive overkill even for me full power u would be dumping the air in the tent once every 7 to 10 secs only reason i can see doing that is if your intake temps are 75 degrees or higher

I bought an 8inch fan that moves around 900cfm for my 4x8 and I just keep it dialed down. It's more than enough for me...

I run a 600 and a 1K in a 9x5 and use a 6inch Vortex. works better then necessary and have it turned down most of the time. Buuut im in alaska and heat is a little easier to battle here than most places.

If I may ask, do you ever have any issues dealing with temp's being too low? Particularly when you're in flowing on a 12/12 cycle? Do you just keep the tent positioned near a radiator with the heating on all the time? Or do you need to heat the intake actively somehow? In the UK, winters can be pretty cold, but not anything like how I imagine it is over there and not for as long either.

Yes I deal w it every day! right now i have my tent split in half w poly so i can run it on a flip and keep lights on 24 hours a day! its the only way to control it w out paying for heat.

Its already getting down to the teens here at night. 13F yesterday. So I am being forced to no longe run ANY exhaust right now. under a thousand it stays right at 82-84 w no ventilation. I can deal w that. I was having to turn on an oil filled radiator at night to combat the loss but between paying for a heater and paying for a light I know which id rather do!

Thanks for your reply and the info'. It's a helluva lot colder there than I'm likely to have to deal with!

I reckon in winter, under LED's I may have to either leave a rad' burning 24/7 or perhaps find a small portable radiator style heater to run inside the room on a thermostat. I guess in my case, it may just be the price I have to pay for insisting on growing in winter with LED's. The real cost savings of the lights may be limited to the summer months. It's a challenge I look forward to solving.
