A few quick questions...

Hi. I'm new to growing but I haven't really started growing yet, I'm in the research and getting things phase. A friend and I want to start growing and have no other place to grow it besides my tree house. It gets worse, were pimping out a garbage can (yes, a garbage can) into a mini grow room. It's equipped with insulation/foil to keep the heat in. The reason we're growing in my tree house is because my parents wouldn't approve. I haven't moved out yet because of college tuition, they're making me pay for most of it. By the way my tree house is damn big. The dimensions are 10 by 10, with about a 12 foot ceiling. I insulated the tree house itself today. I'm going up to a nursery to get more supplies and I'm sort of making a check list so I'm trying to clarify on what to get.

Light: I was thinking about using fluorescent and then switching to HPS later.

What kind of wattage do you think I would need for the:
fluorescent light:
HPS:

Water: I'm going to water it when it feels light and feels dry when I stick my finger into it.

Soil/Nutrients:

Do I get soil with nutrients in it already?
If not what kind and when do I put them in?
If yes would I put more in later?

Air: I'm going to cut a hole in the side of the garbage can to keep the air flowing and I will cut another one to let it go out the other side.

Would I keep the fan on 24/7 or just when the lights are on?



Some responses would be nice knowing that no one in my neighborhood has ever grown and I have no one to ask except for you guys!

no dont get soil with nutrients in it dude just organic soil that has a ph content of about 6.5-7.5 and go to google and type in fox farm nutrients and I think it it the 1st link then click it were it says where can I i buy fox farm or something like that then click your state it it gives you a list of were you can buy it get the 3 pack actually here just click this

hmmmm. a garbage can? how big it most likley wuldnt be safe to put a hps in a garbage can risk of melting or something. an electricity? is there n e in the tree house? chords runnin up the tree wuldnt be wise tryin ta be stelthy an all. would it bee to much to put em in some pots an on a window sill or even build a closet in the tree house. im just brain stormin here dude

you can buy a light potting mix, mix in some worm castings an pearlite. all this is avalable at wally world

Don't bother growing out side of your parent(s) don't want you to be growing there because if the cops find it them your parent(s) will get charged for it then they will get realy mad at you and will prob kick you out.

There's already outlets in my tree house. I'm mostly concerned about the lights. Any ideas?

Nobody ever goes up there. Except my brother every once and a blue moon, and he wouldn't look in a garbage can

if you realy want to , I'm not stopping you but build a grow box so that no light leaks out

It's pretty much enclosed. But... what kind of grow box would you suggest?

like a 4 sided hollow dresser or some thing lol used that 1 my self top front an sides just conselle the grow. but for lights cfls are good an cheap low heat an energy intake. but no matter what u use the electric bill will go up an possable raise suspicions wit ur peoples

Definitely build a grow box like previously mentioned. And dont forget the timer for the lights. There is no way in hell you will be around enough to turn em on and off without one.

Hmmm seems obtainable, my dad owns a construction company so I could make one.

What kind of CFL's did you use?

Yeah I could go up to ACE and get a few timers

they got 13 23 an 48 watts at wall mart. i got me some y spliter to plug to bulbs into 1 outlet

As long as you can obtain the full spectrum kelvin for your plants with cfls, you can keep them ''alive'' but if you're really looking for some tasty nuggies i would put atleast a 250 watt hps up in that beast. Just be sure to be mindfull of the heat you are producing.
