a gallon per foot?? BULLSHIT!

so the general rule of thumb is one gallon of medium per foot of plant, i say horseshit. my plants are in assorted sized containers, and as an experiment, i left a few of them in their original containers to see how they would do in such small pots from germ to harvest. i must say i am well pleased. have to give em a little more tlc with water and nutes, but other than that, it seems to work fine. i wouldnt recommend this as a preferred growing style, but just showing that it is possible.

forgot to mention, these are shwag/bagseed, started from seed. grown under 400w mh and 170w of cfls. been flowering for 20days now, started flowering at about 14" and they are now 2'1" and 2'6"

for everyone that says they would have been bigger if put in larger pots... of course they would. here are two plants, both ams fems. the one in the larger pot was transplanted when i started to flower the other one, it was vegged for one week extra, but the growth difference in the pots is clearly evident.

i just treat them like a bonsai. i had one plant (not pictured male dead) that got rootbound in those small pots, just trimmed the roots back and he did fine, until his nuts dropped.

i didnt think plants could survive if they where in such small pots! learn something new every time i come on this site, its great!!

i knew that they would survive, but i didnt expect the size they got to. im gonna have to figure out a way to keep em from tipping over later in flowering, they are allready top heavy as it is

really small, bout 2x3 x7' tall; but it is easily expandable. most ghetto setup i have seen to date; nailed 2x4s to the wall in a corner and put up some plywood. why, what do you have in mind?

maybe if u put nails on either side of the walls (left an right) and tied a piece of string to both of the nails and wrapped the string in a loop around the plant and make the string taut!! does that make sense?

makes sense but i would have to get creative with it cause i need to move plants out to water them... room is packed w/10 plants. i need to get off of my ass and expand it a little, but dont want to cause after harvest the whole op is getting relocated. maybe if i make the loops big enough to fit on the pot they could be easily removed/replaced as need be.

well if u tied one end of the string tight with a knot on one nail and loop it around the plant and have sum sort of bow tie r some other knot that easily opens on the other side so you could take it off whenever you need!? what watt light are you using?

at the moment i have a 400w mh overhead (yes i flower with mh), 2 85w cfls, and a 40w cfl. the cfl's are just lagniappe for good measure.

edit: also have a 250w mh that i could/should hook up

i havent really heard of many people who flower with mh!! it takes longer, thats the only differance isnt it? i know there a diff in the spectrums but in the end it gets the job done, right?

ps, how do you make a thread?

i havent heard of too many myself, i think Lacy does too. never used hps, so dont know if it takes longer. people say you get less yield and fluffy buds w/mh, but my buds were nice and hard and i have no comparison on yield, so that might be true. if so, oh well, dont have the money for a hps atm.

as far as making a thread, go to whichever part of the forum you wish to post (lets say general mj growin) and look in the left above all of the current threads and there is a button that says new thread. click it. hope that helps.
