I've been running a perpetual grow for a few years now and want to pass on some info about a strain that is ideal for newbies and those with a perpetual grow. A perpetual grow is where you are set up to harvest plants continually. I average 2 harvests per week by growing short, fast and bushy indicas. The strain is Blueberry Gum from G13 Labs. G13 advertises the BG as a sativa/indica hybrid, but don't go by that. Every aspect of the plant is indica as far as I can see.
The beginner will appreciate the strain as it is hardy - it is forgiving of many newby mistakes such as over- or under-watering or nute inbalances. The BG will thrive under most conditions and reliably produce an oz.+ per plant. That is generous for small compact plants that spend just 9 weeks total in dirt.
For the experienced grower wanting a perpetual grow the BG has a host of benefits. Most importantly it is one of the most reliable strains to clone that I have found. This is critically important for a perp. as timing is the backbone of successfully growing week after week. I can figure on clones rooting after 8-10 days in the dome. Means I can predict ahead of time the maturity of my plants. By being so predictable I can plan 8 weeks in advance when plants are to be moved from the domes to veg to flower.
After the clones root I put them in a small 7-inch square pot and FIM the plants at 6-8 inches to keep them as bushy as possible. At 2 weeks in dirt I transplant again into 1 3/4 gallon pots to finish in. Vegging takes about 3 1/2 weeks to reach the height of 18-20 inches. At that height they go into the flowering room. Being so reliable means I know how long each phase takes and can plan my seating chart accordingly. I know they will just about double in size ("stretching") during flowering so I don't have to worry about the plants growing into the light. I usually use a tomato cage when the plants move from 20/4 to 12/12 as they tend to be top-heavy, often 3 or 4 main colas and 2 or 3 times as many lesser colas. At 3 weeks flowering I have a ton of pistils as the trichomes appear. At 5 weeks flowering I start to check them every day by gently squeezing a top cola. I can tell by the bud stickiness just where she is maturity-wise. Harvesting is somewhere from 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 weeks at 12/12. I use nute-water daily as I've found that to be the fastest way to maturity.
That's how I grow 'em - fast and hot. From clone dome to curing jar in 9-10 weeks is fast. We all appreciate that, eh?
I should end the year with about 115 plants harvested and a good 60% were Blueberry Gum. Moms can give viable cuttings at 4 1/2 to 5 weeks in dirt. Important for keeping a perpetual grow going as that means I don't have to keep a mother plant going all the time. I can take clones from a plant that's been flowering for 7-9 days.
Sorry for the long post. I just got carried away trying to share some of what I've found. Works for me!
Good luck, BigSteve.
