hello every1 , let me just say im a beginner and have 3 successful grows under my belt, i was growing in a utility closet using a 400hps light , i have 2 bathroom fans , one for exhaust and cooltube and one for intake . i had no noise problem and they are a bit noisy , and now im moving to a smaller place, and wish to still grow with the 400 hps .but i must keep as stealth as possible and need your help with ventilation . what kind of fans should i use? how many is the minimal amount (for example using only one for exhaust) , money is not a problem , but i need to be stealth as for if someone stand right next to it and have to really put his ear on the closet to here it. thank you so much peace

well not sure on the which fans are quiet really myself. but for noise reduction on the fans you have now or really any fan, you could place a rolled up or should say a folded up towel or a soft rubber mat under them. this will act as a muffler for the noise they make when sitting on the floor. i have and use it myself atm cause my fans when they sit on the floor are loud if your in the kitchen underneath where my grow room is at. other then that i dunno of anyother ways. hope this helps some. oh yeah and you could use some of that egg foam tray stuff on the walls as noise softener as well.

You havent mentioned how much space your moving into that is sectioned for growth. The more cubic feet of air you have the bigger the fan and the more noise it will make. If you need to be quiet then you also need to be smell proof. Does your cool tube have an inline duct fan attached? if so what size?

What you should be striving for is an exhaust fan at the top removing hot air *and preferably also removing hot air from around the light*, a fairly small intake fan at the bottom and a small oscillating fan for your foliage. Measure your space and get cubic feet LxWxH, then find all of your fans cfm. If you can provide this information im sure we can supply you with directions to follow.

If temps are high I would use a 300cfm metal centrifugal vent through a cooltube sucking air from a carbon scrubber.
If they aren't so high I would use even a 4" of the same vent type.

Just run it at the store to see how loud it gets.

an inline fan is what you want. places that sell them have a chart to help you determine what size you will need. you can get a larger fan then you need for the size of your room and use a blower controler to still get the same power you need to exchange the air but only using maybe 50-75% of the fans capacity and then use a fan muffler. that should do it.

This is good advice. Check out www.plantlightinghydroponics.com for some good deals on fans. Get yourself some insulated ducting for maximum effect.

A metal 4" 170cfm centrifugal fan is a bit noisy... I have one in my tent and although it doesn't rattle on anything you need to keep the door shut or its heard through out the house. Its set to turn on at 7am 10ft from my bed and that's the best alarm i have ever bought ;-)
