A little off subject but I have a few friends that's been giving me crap for posting pics and stuff on here, they say its dumb to be growing something secretly and talking about it and posting pics of it, they say its a perfect set up for the cops to see I'm growing and trace my ip and come bust me, is it all paranoia or is it something I have to be careful about?

Well, if you're accessing the site directly (and not through something like TOR), and the cops know you access the site, they only have to talk to your internet service provider to get your address from your IP.

But honestly if you're not a huge threat (not posting pics of huge rooms full of buds etc) and don't have a rep as a distributor, they probably won't bother. Your real-world actions matter more than your online actions.. usually.

Of course it's important to isolate your rollitup usage from your normal email and facebook and whatnot, don't let them share any information. This provides plausible deniability, EVEN IF it came from your own house/computer. You can claim someone used your computer as a gateway with a virus, or someone hacked your wireless and used your internet (one of the reasons I prefer WEP encryption.. Strong enough to keep out the kind of people who live around me, but weak enough that it still remains an excuse).

EXIF data from photos you post may contain GPS data of where the pic was taken. This is another possible route to be busted. Open pics in mspaint or a photo editor, save as, different file type usually removes EXIF data.

Nobody here should have a Facebook account or use Google or Hotmail because they all give their info freely to the government. All digital data is collected and stored by the government, not just in the U.S. but every foreign citizen living abroad as well. That means every cell phone call, every email, private message, posting, or photo. You should be a LOT more concerned about your friends knowing about your grow. "Friends" get people busted every day.

my advice is only post pics if your legal. they have bigger fish to fry then some one legal to grow in there state, there are a lot of hard core drug dealers out there, not worried about some one trying to get personal meds or patients meds. lets face it after we pay the electric bills soil nutes, how much can we really make. a lot of people don't even break even , expecially when the electric company charges fucking 16 cents a kilowatt in a state that is in almost in a state of emergency like mi, no jobs or money

I would be more worried about a "few friends" knowing also...Remember the first rule of growing.

Well I've got a small grow going, a 3x3x4 box, in a state where it's been decriminalized, I've only got a few going, just enough for personal use, and I'm not that computer savy to run anything thru different programs, I don't have my Facebook or anything linked to this site other than my email, and I'm only a member of this site, no other forums, but I was just wondering if this was a site that cops "patrol" for growers

I agree, your friends are more of a threat to your safety rather than the gov or cops.

No. There are cops that come on here but the two that I know of are very cool, pro-pot cops. I'm sure there are some that come on here hoping to score a big bust but the big growers don't come on here, or if they do they are very quiet about their grow and don't post pix of it. Cops are not going to get the info from this site; it just ain't happening. The servers are in Canada for one thing and the Canadian government could give two shits less about a bunch of Americans growing pot - especially if it's for personal use like most of us are. I think most cops understand that Pablo Escobar is not going to be posting pix of his op here.

Only Global mods and Admins can see IP's
if YOU give out your PERSONAL INFO such as, location, email address that is linked to facebook, skype, twitter or some sort of social media, linked photos, ect,
that than is YOUR fault.
You as a user need to be aware of YOUR personal safety while using the internet.

than you will be fine.

As for cops you can be the paranoid person which is like 90% of riu

riu is world wide, there are not cops from every city int he world trying to get on here and bust people they have better things to do with their time
unfortunately people usually go with paranoia over logical reason
