Accidental Grower!

Hi,

So my mother found some seeds (apparently in her room, but possibly from my brothers room originally) and decided to plant them in 4 or so pots on a windowsill. I don't know what she thought they were but to me they look (and smell) like cannabis. The smell is quite pungent from a short distance (a foot or so)

Pics to follow as soon as I can, but they are about 8-10 inches tall. I have no idea what to do with them - my mother is either completely oblivious or more likely knows exactly what they are. She has suggested putting them outside as it's may/june and there is plenty of room for them in our large and secluded back garden.

I don't think I can convince her to get rid of them - she's a strict vegeterian, she hates cut flowers, cried when our back garden tree had to be chopped down, and I've never known her to willingly destroy any living thing.

I have no idea what strain they are, I've checked on here and I can't tell if they are male or female, they must have been planted 3-4 weeks ago perhaps (I'm not sure). How big could they get? There are 4 pots but I counted a dozen or so individual plants.

So what do I do? Harvest them? Let them grow out in the back? They will get 10-12 hours of sunlight though the weather has been very changeable recently - very sunny but also a few downpours. I'm in England, hardly the best place for the growing of anything from a tropical climate.

if you leave them outside they will grow quite big, obviously depending on strain, they will also get a good few ounces on each plant, there normally ready end of September/October, you will have to keep any eye on them to make sure there's no males, you can spot a male if it has balls hanging all grouped together, females have hairs,

Shit outside you will be pulling lbs per plant if done right. The above post is right they are going to get huge.

You lucky bastard. If she doesn't realize what they are id say to tell her you googled it and found they are a rare spice. Tell her that you'll take care of them cuz your interested to see how they turn out. Then when she's not home one day harvest em.

Yeah robert is right. She probably smoked pot along with everyone else back in the 70's and 60's.

I can't believe she's done this. Then again is it an offence to grow something illegal entirely by accident? I remember a couple of weeks ago she was looking for stuff to plant for the summer.

Sorry about the pics, phone camera and I was in a hurry. I just don't believe while I've been sneaking about with tiny amounts of green there's been 4 pots of the stuff cheerfully growing by our back door!

Thanks robert I will look out for "balls" on the plants. On the other hand I still don't know what I'm going to do with them yet, I'm going to leave it a week (she's going to see her mother) and then decide.

It looks like weed but then again it kinda doesen't..I'm not sure what to say about those. But they shouldnt smell like anything right now cause if it is weed it's still vegging. A more trained eye should be able to help you with this. I hope it's some crazy type strain of weed. I'm subbed I want to know what that is too.

yeah that's definitively weed, tell your mom to get that out doors in the sun asap the plants are stretching looking for more light. If you dont put them outside get a fan on them and add a CFL over head before they topple over.

its weed ... but they to get outside fast ... too many in the pots and they are streching really bad ....

as a side note and just to give you more of an idea of what situation I'm in, I'm actually due to be moving out in a couple of weeks across town.

My father, who lives with my mother and is completely oblivious to everything horticultural including these - is retiring from the police this year. he hardly ever goes down to the back of the house (we have an extension) - but once you're there you get a distinct whiff of the stuff. I know exactly what his reaction will be if he finds out and I'm keen to save the poor little plants.

That's why I'm worried about the smell and want to get them out into the garden soon as possible after my mother gets back. I'm assuming I can't just dump them into the groundsoil on their own (or can I? Everything else in our garden grows with wild abandon because we never cut it). There is a perfect area right down at the back of the garden protected from view by a large pear tree overhanging our land and a couple of high fences

don't mess with it leave it alone just move out like you plan, if its outside and gets size on it this could ruin your dads chance for receiving his retirement , let them go or kill them before your dad wants to know why there are pot seeds in his house in the first place

id say that they are def cannabis plants...but you have/are going to have a few problems. first off they are not getting enough light...thats why they are stretched like that...all tall and skinny...if they manage to recover from that and dont fall over from the weak stems then you have another issue...rootbound...having that many plants in one container is going to be a problem...the plants are going to be fighting for root space...which the pots your using are no where near big enough. by now the roots are so tangled up your not going to be able to seperate them...and if you have males your going to have to just cut them down..leaving the old roots in the pot...then all kinds of problems are going to stem from that. what i would do is pick the best, most non-stretched plant in each pot and cut the rest...or more then likely all of them are going to die...least give 3-4 of them a chance...instead of killing them all.

now thats if you plan to grow it till harvest to have some at least half decent smoke...if your just growing them for fun and not really caring about size or quality...then just let them bitches grow..but get them some more light fast before they kill over

as for the strain..there is almost no way to tell...ive been growing for about 15 years and only certain strains can i tell what they are when growing just going by the look....and there are thousands of strains out there....more then likely you have a no-named hybrid...just hope its not some mexican brick weed sativa that takes 20 weeks to flower

my 65 yo neighbor frequently asks me for joints.. older ladies love weed too, your lucky brother, and your mom seems super cool.. for smell get her some rosemary bushes, or even rose bushes.. plant them out, rosemary around it, some lavender, prob solved homie

Yeah cannaboy + kingi I thought I was exaggerating but I just went down for another smell of them and standing upright next to them there is definitely a smell. Not much of a smell, but when I put my nose right down on top of them it's definitely that smell.

robert thanks for the advice. I honestly don't know what to do. Part of me has a fantasy about growing pot in the back of the garden but I literally know nothing about how to grow them, how big they'd get, how to harvest them. It's a complete pipe dream.

On the other hand I can count on one hand the number of times my father has been out to the garden this year - and right down to the back? Never. the place is overgrown, and unless there was a very heavy smell I don't believe he'd even recognise the plant in the wild. It's very secluded too, unless those plants were to grow 8-10 foot high there is no chance they'd be spotted by our neighbours.

Ok so I went for a compromise in the end.

I looked at each of the plants, saw the distinctive hairs on the top of one of them, it is one of the taller plants in the pot I photographed individually, it seems to be the best developed.

I found a large pot, filled the bottom with gravel, then a mix of garden soil and good quality fertilizer my mother uses for the potted plants, along with a handful of old sodden woodchips and dead leaves in an advanced state of decomposition. The soil here is full of little pebbles but it got a couple of handfuls of that too!

I excavated a little round the plant at first, gently I disentangled it, a couple of roots lost but the bulk of them still on it, very quickly I put it into its new home (I'm aware of the shock factor when transplanting flora), with a stick and a piece of old shoelace to tie it gently upright.

It's down the very back of the garden. I decided on a pot in the end because there are so many weeds and climbing plants I didn't want it getting strangled before it could take a proper hold. The pot's about a foot diameter and a foot depth, plenty of growing room for it for a while. That was about an hour ago, I've noticed it drooping slightly but that could be the wind, otherwise it seems to have held up quite nicely, and I made sure its new home was moist with water as the plants in the house are, and it has good east-west sunlight from about 6am till around 8pm.

There's no way you'd notice one was gone, just got to give the gal a chance to grow a little! I just want one to be mine, even if the rest do end up planted there is no guarantee they'll survive, or even produce a crop - even if I do take the nail scissors to the males one sultry evening.

My father, it transpires, is aware of the plants but has inspected them on his own and decided they're a species of nettle or mint plant. Like I said his grasp of horticulture is as limited as my own, but then again he apparently didn't attempt to smell the things. I counted sixteen, and covering the others over on themselves conceals my abduction admirably. I doubt anyone has counted them but me.

seperate the plants and space them a few feet appart if you plant them outside, if you were intending to grow you would put one seed (plant) per pot. if you leave them like they are the roots will become intertwined. and they will die

emily did u not read what he just said? He is only guna grow the one. My only suggestion is if you say you are moving across town, how will u be able to tend to your plant? Also what about the new tennants?
