Adding Computer fans to grow area.

Hey everyone!

Looking to see some advice, help, your set ups for ideas as everyone's space is ideally different, adding computer fans to the area.

Does it help cut back on power because you wouldn't be using as many larger fans?

Is the fans to move stail hot air, cooling & ventilation, etc?
I currently have a 2x4x5 grow tent. I heard people using computer fans in their set ups before maybe not inside a grow tent because there is ventilation options available, but I would maybe like to try implementing something like that inside my tent, also to help control the noise levels a bit. I don't have my ventilation / inline fan running due to the noise level it produces unless I had a way to mute the sound of air blowing out, also with the carbon filter inside the tent pulling air through it not pushing air.

Noise level of tent is important as I sleep next to it and power consumption is also important, so if I can get a couple computer fans in there to do a lot of air movements, and or help cooling over running 1 medium fan, and using "1/2 the power" that would be awesome!

The entire tent is running on a 18/6 cycle, even the fans shut down for the 6 hour period, (not hydro set up yet until I can control Rez heat from water pumps; need to save up for a chiller) it all shuts down at night cause the tempature drops low enough to cool the entire tent by lights on cycle, as well as bring the humidity up to 60%.

I have one of these mist humidifiers but can't use due to the fact I keep the tent door open for heat controlling, if the door was closed I could possibly have higher humidity but the tent tempature needs to stay at optimal 22-23 degrees

I'd want at least a smaller 10"-12" oscillating personal type fan to be moving around the tent over my plants. Computer fans really do not move much air

I have a few PC fans in my tent but they are in addition to my tower fans and clip on fans, some of the PC fans actually cause more of a breeze than some of the clip on fans. Unfortunately though they are no substitute for proper extraction fans and they wont pull the amount of air through a proper carbon filter that's needed to cool the tent.

The best way to have low noise is to use a bigger fan and filter and use a variable speed controller to turn the speed down, you can then add acoustic ducting and also box the fan in using mdf and sound proofing material. But its never going to be silent and in all honesty I cant see a situation where you can sleep next to a grow tent.

I have one of the quietest fans on the market and even turned down and boxed in and with acoustic ducting theres no way I could sleep in the same room. I do have a tent much bigger than yours though so maybe if you went big enough fan wise and turned it to just ticking over you could reduce the sound more than I.

I only use pc fans in my grow area (to move air) I have in line fans for extraction. I've never had a problem with heat as I can move them round.

I use artic f12 they move 74cfm each

Arctic would be the best choice. If you mount a few of them together side by side you can increase the amount of air moved, but it won't get very far. If you mount a few together inline with each other you can get a little more velocity, but would be more of a spot fan.

If you are really concerned about sound, pc fans can be the way to go in a small space. You can easily run 5-6 cheap 120mm Coolermaster fans on a MW APV12-12 and only draw a few watts.
