long story short I have a plant which is doing very well... but as we all know adding more light is addictive!!!!! I have a white widow x big bud 15 days into flowering.... and I see that I can get a 150w HPS very cheap.... would it be a good idea to add this to the mix??? I'm currently flowering with 2 100w blackstars and 2 105w cfls.... I dont want to overkill.... any pros or cons to doing this???View attachment 1928386

here's a pic of her now.... I dont want to screw this up!!! but want to do the best with her I can~

the heat was definitely a concern.... I'm not familiar with HPS so Im not sure what Id be getting into.... I have a 4" duct fan pulling air now.... changing the tents air about 5 times a minute if my math is right.... I run about 81F fairly consistently.... so I'm guessing the 150w hps bulb will increase that by quite a bit??? need a bigger fan???

yeah, It will definately increase your heat, and at 81 degrees, your pushing the heat boundry now, Do you have a regular fan on in there? Get an oscilating fan in their with the duct fan to circulate the air to be sucked out.....

I do have a high velocity 9" fan blowing down.... she's constantly swaying back and forth.... and the 81 degree measurement is taken by a thermometer I have clipped onto the side of the 5 gallon bucket.... so I cant say the temp is valid for the entire enclosure.... but I know I'm pulling the heat from the top....thats where my ducting is pulling from

I have growlabs smallest tent.... GL40 which is 16" square i think.... I have a 32" square on the way as she is quickly outgrowing this one... a good thing??? lol!!!

More lumens better spectrum can never be a bad thing. Perhaps a solution is to remove some of the CFL's and get a better vent fan.

I should add.... this started on a whim..... and now has blossomed into quite an addictive hobby!! Just wanted to play around and now things are going so well I just want to keep her happy and give her the best possible environment ya know?

ok.... great suggestion.... so it's safe to say the CFL's output pales in comparison to what the small HPS will provide... mind you...its just a 150w hps I'm talking about

I know its a little off topic but I actually just got a 100watt MH light (for veg state) and I am looking to move my grow room. However the room I am moving to is fairly cold. I just put in a cheap space heater but I am not sure that it will be enough alone. Will the MH light produce a bit of heat? The space is about the size of a walkin closet. (4x10)ish. Or should I wait until I am ready to flower and then just put an HPS light in that space? (Eventually I would start 2 rooms , one for veg and clones and one for flowering.) Both rooms are identical (neither are set up yet) I am just not sure how too keep them heated and ventilated at the same time... any ideas?

Krazifox.... I dont know enough to answer your question.... but I know the bulb will certainly produce some heat.... Im sure the guys here can answer you question. Having said that.... if your concerns are about temps being too cool.... any heat source with a thermostat would easily remedy the problem....

The LED's are likely not putting off that much heat. For that matter neither do cfl's. I think the best thing would be better ventilation. But also remember the electric bills. So, you efinately want the best lighting for the least cost. The HID is ceertainly the way to go.

point taken and much appreciated my friend.... I have four outlets on my timer.... and the HID will definitely be plugged into one of them.... I need to crash but ty all for SO much good advice..... stay tuned for pics if you're interested.... be well be safe and happy holidays~

Yea perfect man, and temps can be hard to control sometimes. I had a problem with mine for quite awhile it still doesnt like to cooperate sometimes haha.

Ive firgured out that with the tents even with proper ventilation it is nice to open the doors for an hour or so a day let alot of fresh air in and out. I have seen better results with doing it.

and with a bigger tent means more room for the lights to heat it up. temps dropping dont surprise me.
