Adding lights to the grow

So right now I am growing 6 ladies under a 400 watt HPS. I want to add some CFL's for some extra side lighting. Tse CFL's I have lying around my house are either 23w 6500K's, or 8w 2300K's. I am wondering which ones I would benefit more from? More wattage, or better spectrum? Thanks.

Depends on where you're at in the life cycle. The HPS is a great flowering bulb, but they tend to lack some of the blue spectrums that are most beneficial during the vegetative stage. I'd run the blue spectrum cfls during vegging, then add the red spectrum cfls during flowering.

You can use CFLs for side lighting. Keep in mind, however, that the small amount of UV light emitted by the HPS will degrade the coatings on the inside of the CFLs shortening their potential life-span.
This somewhat nullifies the advantages of CFLs in the first place:
They have a built in electronic ballast that lasts for damn near forever. If the bulb goes out on one of your CFLs, chances are that the ballast is still good! Unfortunately, to my knowledge, you cant re-use the ballast in any way.

I'd use all of them, and the hps. lol. in vegging color spectrum really doesnt matter as much as people would have you believe.(no offense anyone). 8w cfls? the smallest ive ever seen is 13w, personally i think using anything under 23-26w is not worth the heat it generates, not enough bang for your buck so to say..

ya they were 14W, I was just being too lazy to get up and look at the actual amt.. Actually I was bored waiting for a response so I went and fucked around with the lights and ended up putting them all in there anyway. +rep. good idea lol. And the 13W are just lights that I found in the lamps around the house. Thanks yall.
